It was a great first day at the Welsh Senior & U15 Indoor Championships. A busy day of personal bests, club records and Welsh Records!

Birmingham Commonwealth Games athlete Lauren Evans (Cardiff Athletics) ran a personal best with 8:48 in the Senior Women’s 60m hurdles, in what was a close final against Grace Morgan (Cardiff Archers) who finished in second place with 8:56, just shy of a personal best. Evans will be returning to competition tomorrow in the high jump and long jump, whilst Morgan will be competing in the long jump.

In the Senior Men’s 60m hurdles heats, Callum Holder (Sutton & District AC) set a new Cardiff Met record with a time of 7.96.

After breaking the U15’s 1500m indoor record at last years Junior Open, Libby Hale (Swansea Harriers) improved on the Welsh Record by 2 seconds, crossing the finish line with a time of 4:33:20.

Competing in the Senior Women’s Shot Put, Paralympian Sabrina Fortune (Deeside AAC) took gold with a throw of 12.72m, Fortune now has her eyes set on the World Championships later this year.

It was an extremely close race in the Senior Men's 1500m, Matt Woodward (Swindon Harriers) took home gold with 4:00:59 followed closely by Aaron Enser (Bracknell AC) in second with 4:00:65.

Cardiff Athletics dominated the Women’s 60m final with the top five finishers. Hannah Longden (Cardiff Athletics) took gold with 7.55, Maltese Olympian and Commonwealth Games athlete Charlotte Wingfield (Cardiff Athletics) was the second highest finisher. Rebecca Chapman (Cardiff Athletics) took silver, and Kya Asiya Placide (Cardiff Athletics) finished off the podium taking bronze.

There was great representation from North Wales across events. Deeside AAC added 8 medals to their tally, with Aidan Angilletta (Deeside AAC) picking up three gold medals in U15 boys long jump, 60m hurdles and triple jump. Olivia Scrimshaw (Deeside AAC) took two golds and 1 bronze in the U15 girls long jump, 60m hurdles and 60m sprint. Jumping a Championship Best Performance in the long jump.

There was plenty of personal bests across the pole vault compeitions. In the U15 boys compeition Kellan Heuberger (Swansea Harriers) cleared 2.16m to take silver and Kodi Penn-O'Hare (Swansea Harriers) cleared 2.11m. Whilst Harry Newton (Swansea Harriers) cleared 4.03m to secure a bronze medal.

In the final race of the day Joshua Brown (Cardiff Athletics) was crowned Senior Men's Champion over 60m finishing with 6:92.
