The Welsh Senior and U15 Indoor Championships will take place at the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff this weekend. This year’s edition will be the first Welsh Indoor Championship to run fully integrated Para-athletics Championship events.

With a combined total of 469 athletes competing over the course of the weekend, this shows an increase of 26% in total participants compared to the 2022 edition.

Commonwealth Games athletes Aled Sion Davies (Cardiff) will be competing in the shot put, whilst Lauren Evans (Cardiff Athletics) will be competing across three events this weekend. Getting her Championships underway with the 60M hurdles on Saturday, and on Sunday long jump and high jump. Evans will be looking to add to her collection of medals for 2023 after winning Pentathlon gold in the incorporated Welsh Championships at the England Athletics Indoor Combined Events earlier this month.

Competing alongside Aled Davies in the shot put is Michael Jenkins (Pembrokeshire), Jenkins broke the discus world record for his classification in last year’s Welsh Senior Outdoor Championships.

Both the Women’s and Men’s 60m races are shaping up to be a great affair. In the men’s race Development performance programme athlete Sam Gordon (Cardiff Athletics), Dewi Hammond (Cardiff/Cardiff Met Uni) and Josh Brown (Cardiff) will be looking to secure the title. Outside of the Championships however, the stand-out athlete will be Harry Aikines-Ayreetey who is a former World Junior Champion, former European Silver medalist and a current European Champion as part of the 4 x 100m Relay team from Munich.

In the women’s race non-Welsh athlete and current all comers record holder, Asha Philip (Newham & Essex Beagles) will be getting her season underway following a busy 2022 competing at the Commonwealth Games, World and European Championships.

Nell Desir (Cardiff Archers) will be competing in the Senior Women’s 60M and 200M races. Desir currently holds the U15 60M and 200M Welsh Records.

After breaking the U15 Girls 1500m Welsh Record in 2022, Libby Hale (Swansea Harriers) will be facing Bryony Boyce (Cardiff AAC) the current U13 Girls Welsh Record holder.

UKA 2022/23 Paralympic World Class Performance athlete, Sabrina Fortune (Deeside AAC) will be competing in the shot put hoping to secure the Welsh title.
