WSAA Statement - SIAB XC Cancellation

SIAB CROSS COUNTRY 2020
Welsh Schools Athletic Association confirms the cancellation of the 2020 SIAB Cross Country event which was due to be held at Callendar Park, Falkirk, Scotland on Saturday, March 21st. This decision was taken after extensive consultation with colleagues at both English and Scottish Schools following the withdrawal of Ireland, due to the school closures in the Republic, on Thursday. Our thanks to all athletes and parents for their patience whilst this difficult decision was being considered.
We are grateful to Welsh Athletics for their guidance and support during this challenging time and particular thanks go to Interim Chief Executive James Williams and Chairman Steve Perks.
We would also thank our colleagues at English, Scottish and Irish Schools who have worked tirelessly to arrive at this decision. We were all mindful of a rapidly changing situation around Covid 19 and the decision was taken in the interest of athlete safety and well-being (as well as the army of parents and supporters travelling to cheer them on). All those selected plus the reserves have received a communication informing them of the cancellation.
We accept that this will be a huge disappointment for all, especially those achieving their first representative honours, however, there will be other opportunities. We ask that all schools athletes across Wales take care of themselves and others in the difficult weeks ahead.
