World Silver for Andy Davies & 400m PBs for 'Team Elias'

IAU/ITRA Trail World Championships, Portugal - June 8

Wales Commonwealth Games marathon runner Andy Davies (Andy Vernon) helped Great Britain to a team silver medal at the IAU/ITRA World Championships in Portugal on Saturday. The Stockport AC athlete finished the challenging 44km course in 16th place overall in a time of 3:49.57. Davies was the third scoring British athlete home, confirming their silver medal behind France and ahead of Spain. GB teammate Jon Albon was crowned overall world champion.

Para-athletics Grand Prix in Grosseto, Italy - June 8-9 

Welsh thrower Harrison Walsh smashed the F44 World shot put record in Grosseto over the weekend. He threw a massive 15.73m in his first round throw, breaking the record and seeing him place just 2nd in the mixed classification event. 

Trail de Geurledan in Brittany, France - June 9 

On Sunday 9th June, a Welsh quartet made their way over to Brittany, France to compete in the 26km trail race of the Trail de Geurledan. The quartet won the team race and they also had very strong individual performances. Rob Samuel finished 1st and Mark Hopkinson 3rd in the 26 km race. Richard Roberts finished 15th with Alun Williams in 18th.

UK Women's Athletics League, Premier Division, Leigh - June 9

Cardiff Athletics' women's team made their return to the top flight of the UK Women's League at Leigh on Sunday with a highly creditable fourth place in the season's opening fixture.

Mica Moore (Lawrence Moore) clocked a season's best time of 11.91 as she gained maximum points in the B string 100m race. There was a pair of personal bests for Cardiff athletes in the 400m where Sophie Becker clocked 54.74 in the A string race and Rhiannon Linington-Payne (Matt Elias) recorded 54.53 finishing second to fellow Welsh athlete Melissa Roberts (Matt Elias), who also enjoyed a PB of 54.25.

The 800m was a source of maximum points for Cardiff where Lizzie Harris won the A race in 2:11.89 and Naomi Reid (James Thie) took the B race in 2:15.83. It was a busy afternoon for Reid who finished third in the 1500m A race in a season's best 4:45.04. Clara Evans set a new personal best of 10:00.16 in the 3000m A race, while the Cardiff quartet clocked a club record 3:40.94 to finish second in the 4x400m.

There was a Cardiff win in the high jump B event where Deana Kealy also set a new PB of 1.65m and the long jump also saw good points for the Welsh club as Rebecca Chapman (David Norton) finished second in the A event and Sara Geary (Francis Baker) was second in the B event, both in season's best distances. Sarah Omoregie (Gareth Lease) also claimed a second place in the shot put A event with a throw of 14.81m, while Sabrina Fortune (Ian Robinson) went one better by winning the B event in 12.87m. Cardiff's Bethany Moule (John Davies) was second in the A string javelin with 46.30m, while Wales team-mate Bethan Rees won the B competition with 47.79m for Birchfield Harriers.

British Athletics League, Division One, Leigh - June 9

Wales and Great Britain international Joe Brier (Matt Elias) broke the 47 second barrier in the 400m for the first time at the British Athletics League Division One fixture on Sunday. Winning maximum points for Swansea Harriers, Brier clocked a big new personal best time of 46.85, eclipsing the previous best time of 47.12 he set in Belgium last weekend. There was also a PB in the B string 400m rest as under 20 athlete Steffan Dylan Jones (Darrell Maynard) clocked 49:07.

Over the longer distances Elliott Lawrence (Kevin Tobin) clocked a lifetime best time of 8:49.95 as he finished third on the 3000m B string race, while Daniel Rothwell repeated the feat as he finished third in the A string 3,000m steeplechase in a PB of 9:17.04. Patrick Swan (Mo Pearson) and Daniel Cork (Malcolm Wallace) enjoyed successful days for Swansea in the throws. Cork was second in the shot put A string competition, while Swan won the B string event and finished second in the A string discus.

Irish Milers Club Open (Le Chiele International), Leixlip - June 8

Swansea Harrier Leon Greenwood (David Norton) clocked a new lifetime best in the 100m at the Irish Milers Club Open (Le Chiele International) on Saturday. Greenwood finished fifth in a time of 10.42, while Cardiff's Kristian Jones (Glyn Hawkes) was sixth in a season's best time 10.46. There was also a season's best for Swansea Harrier Hannah Brier (Glyn Hawkes), who won her 100m in a time of 11.52. Cardiff's Elliot Slade clocked an 800m season's best finishing third in 1:51.93.

Gouden Spike, Leiden, Netherlands, June 8

Cardiff's Jake Smith (James Thie) chalked up a European Under-23 Championships qualifying time at the Gouden Spike meeting on Saturday. The Cardiff Met student finished second in a time of 29:15.08, which also beat the personal best he had set at Loughborough in April.

Parkrun, Cardiff, Llynllechowain, Swansea Bay - June 8.

Cardiff Athletics'  Morgan James ran the sixth fastest parkrun time clocked across the UK on Saturday as he won the Cardiff event in 15:41.

Cardiff teammate Lucy Marland ran the third fastest women's time at the Llynllechowain event in Carmarthenshire, where she clocked 18:06. Vicky Jackson, of Run4All, Neath, clocked the ninth fastest women's time in the country, clocking 18:21 at the Swansea Bay run.

British Athletics League, Premiership, Allianz Park - June 9

Cardiff Senior Men's team finished their second match in a comfortable third place.

It was a good day for the middle distance athletes who came away with strong performances. Joseph Reid (Matt Elias) recorded 1:50:85 to finish first in the 800m A race and Rowan Axe (Craig Winrow) placed a comfortable first place in the 1500m A race recording a time of 3:51:07.

UK Women's Athletics League, Division One, Allianz Park - June 9

The Swansea Harriers Women's team opened their season at Allianz Park with a strong middle and long distance team and finishing 6th overall. Comfortable wins for Sophie Harris and Kate Roberts their 3000m races and Abi Goodrick-Latham (Kevin Tobin) in the 1500 B race. 

Caryl Granville (Darrell Maynard) also made her return to the 400m hurdles following an injury. She recorded 58.71 finishing first in the B race. Bethan Kennedy (Colin Bovell) finished strong in the A race to finish second with a time of 58.31.
