Wins for Kidger, Chapman, Nicoll & the men's 4x100 - Weekend Round Up

Three Welsh women took individual wins in the #BattleoftheNations at Loughbrough. Beth Kidger [Joel Kidger] ran a fantastic controlled 3000m to win in 9.21 in a strong field, Rebecca Chapman jumped an impressive 6m25 to take the Long Jump win, and Adele Nicoll [Ryan Jones] threw a season's best 16m14 to win the shot. Another highlight of the afternoon was the men’s 4x100m where Wales took the win in 39.73 seconds. Led off by Dan Beadsley [Dave Norton], who handed to Josh Brown down a windy back straight, Jeremiah Azu [Helen James] took Wales into the lead round the final bend and handed to Sam Gordon [Matt Elias] to bring it home for a clear win ahead of the GB Juniors team.
Lauren Cooper [NIcola Haines Jones] took a deserved 2nd in the women’s steeplechase despite a fall on the last lap, finishing in 10.35. In a tactical flat 3000m, Osian Perrin [Andrew Walling] was in the mix with a lap to go and ended up with a battling 6th place in 8.35.35.There were PBs for Sian Harry [Bob Bridges] – 55.07 in the 400m, and Dan Cork [Malcolm Wallace], 17m08 in the shot.
And solid performances all round from the Welsh team in the first international for over 12 months, including 3rd places for Lizzie Harris [Steve Mitchell] in the 800m on her Welsh debut, Joe Brier [Matt Elias] running 46.88, and Caryl Granville 58.78 in the 400m hurdles and 14.10 in the 100m hurdles. There were good clearances in swirly conditions of 4m75 for Tom Walley [Geoff Ward] in the pole vault & 1.70 in the high jump for Lauren Evans, and for Jonathon Bailey who jumped 2m00.
On a busy day for women’s team captain Rhiannon Linnington-Payne, [Matt Elias] she ran 54.66 in her 400m having anchored home the women’s 4x100m team, which also included Hannah Brier, Amy Odunaiya and Mica Moore [Lawnrence Moore]. Hannah ran 11.84 in the individual 100m, Mica 11.99, and Amy 25.04 in the individual 200m.
- Bethany Moule throw 48m64 in the javelin which also saw Hollie Arnold throw 40m30 in her second comp back, and Ffion Palmer threw 51.62 in the women’s hammer whilst brother Jac threw 67.58 in the men’s competition having achieved the Commonwealth nomination standard a week ago.
- Multi eventer Curtis Matthews long jumped 6m62 and ran 15.81 in the 110m Hurdles
- Caitlyn Mapps represented Great Britain juniors for the first time, running in the 4x100m and clocking 24.46 for the 200m as a guest.

- Rhys Jones and James Ledger representing DSW Para-academy ran the 100m in the pouring rain of Gateshead - Rhys running 12.74 and James 13.09.
Barry 40 Welsh Ultra Championships
- This unique event took place at Jenner Park on Sunday - results to follow
Bristol Road 5k
- Charlotte Arter [Chris Jones] took the win in the women’s race in 16.10 Despite windy conditions. And in the mens’s race, Tom Marshall led home a trio of Welsh athletes, finishing third in 14.16 With James Hunt in 4th [14.19] and Josh Griffiths in 5th [14.19 ] close behind.
Swansea Sprints & Jumps event
- Full results here from another of our return to athletics event specific events which saw great performances across the 100m, 200m, Long Jump, High Jump & Hurdles. The highest age graded performance of the day came from Alex Azu who ran 11.35 for the 100m.
Round up
- Gracie Griffiths race walked a PB of 15.10 for 3000m in Bromley
- There were PB’s for both Ella and Lucy Wintle - 2.21 in 800m for Ella and 46.5 in the 300m for Lucy.
- Frank Morgan of Carmarthen Harriers ran a PB of 4.01.81 for the 1500m in Leigh, where Roman Hodgson of Deeside also ran - clocking 1.57.41 in the 800m
