West Wales win the Inter-Regional Championships whilst Reynolds and Jones break Welsh Records

Welsh Inter-Regional T&F Championships, Aberdare – August 4
Athletes from each of the four regions of Wales descended upon the new Ron Jones Stadium in Aberdare to see who would be crowned the Inter Regional Champion.
There were an array of standout performances across the age groups but it was West Wales that came on top and took the overall championship win.
International Throwing Meeting, Leiria, Portugal – August 3-4
A handful of Welsh athletes flew over to Leiria to compete at the International Throwing Meeting with Osian Jones breaking his Welsh record not once but twice over the weekend. He threw an impressive 73.85m to finish 2nd in the elite competition. Jac Palmer also competed in the same competition throwing 64.70 to finish 6th.
Amber Simpson threw an impressive 60.39m in the Hammer competition. Ffion Palmer also challenged in the elite hammer competition, throwing 54.06m to finish 5th.
Memorial Rasschaert, Ninove, Belgium – August 3
Two Welsh distance produced some strong performances competing out in Belgium over the weekend.
Jake Heyward won his 1500m, not far from his season's best, in 3:40.17 and Beth Kidger placed 5th, with a new personal best of 4:31.27, in her 1500m race.
Barry 10K, Barry – August 4
Yesterday saw Barry host the Barry 10K with Swansea Harrier Josh Griffiths taking the win in the men’s race in 30:22. He was followed by James Hunt who finished 3rd in 31:08.
In the women’s race, Natasha Cockram was the first welsh women home in a run of 34:43. She was followed by Clara Evans who finished in 35:17.
British Athletics League Premiership, Birmingham - August 3
Cardiff's men’s team competed in the final match of the British Athletes League to avoid relegation.
Young runner Benjamin Reynolds made history in Birmingham after running a new U17 Welsh Record in 1500m, setting a new time of 3:51.30
There were also some stand out performances from David Locke in the B string 800 who took the win in 1:51.97 and Owen Smith who finished 3rd in the A 400m in 47.22.
Unfortunately, the team finished the league in 8th place and will join fellow Welsh club Swansea Harriers in Division 1 next season.
UK Women’s League Premiership, Birmingham – August 3
Cardiff Women’s team have secured their spot in the premiership for next season finishing 4th in the match and 4th in the league overall.
There were some great performances throughout the day in the distance races. Claire Harris finished 3rd in the 800m in 2:10.46 and teammate Lauren Cooper ran 07:00.36 to finish 2nd in the 2000m S/Chase.
In the 1500m, Charlotte Arter dominated the A race in 4:32.43 whilst teammate Naomi Reid finished 2nd in the B race, running 4:43.88. In the 3000m Charlotte ran again but this time with Jenny Nesbitt. Both girls ran together but with Jenny taking the victory in 9:18.30 to win the A race with Charlotte finishing just behind in 9:18.45 to win the B race.
In the sprints, Rhiannon Linnington-Payne showed consistency in the 400 running 54.80 to finish 3rd in the A race.
On the field, Sarah Omoregie finished 3rd in A string Shot Put with a throw of 14.10 whilst Lucy Griffiths took the win in the B string with a throw of 11.85m. Daenna Kealy also comfortably won the High Jump B string in 1.65m
UK Women’s League Division One, Wigan – August 4
Swansea Harriers took their women’s team up to Wigan to secure their place in Division One finishing 3rd in the match and 5th in the overall league table.
Caryl Granville showed she is getting back into good form winning both the 400m hurdles (57.78) A race and 100m Hurdles (14.48) B race.
Hannah Brier also ran a good 100m, finishing in 12.07 to take 2nd and Olivia Caesar won the B string 400 comfortably in 57.31.
In the distance events, Sian Kirk finished 3rd in the 800 running 2:23.41 and Ffion Higginson took 2nd in the 3000m in a time of 11:19.54
In the field events, Abi Buxton claimed 2nd place on countbacks in the High Jump with a jump of 1.60 and Emily Thomas finished 3rd in the B Triple Jump with a leap of 10.85m
Unfortunately, due to adverse weather conditions, the 2000m S/Chase, 200m and both relays were cancelled.
British Athletics League Division One, Wigan – August 4
Swansea Harriers men’s team have also solidified their spot in division one next season finishing 5th in the match but 4th in the overall league table.
The team showed strength in their final match with 17 top 3 performances.
Sam Ige and Leon Greenwood came 1st and 3rd respectively in the 100m A and B races. Youngster Steffan Dylan Jones finished 3rd in a tough A 400m race, running in a quick time of 48.69.
Paul Tobin ran a strong 800 finishing 2nd in the B race in 1:55.33 whilst teammate Guy Smith took 3rd in the B 1500m running 4:02.14. In the 5,000m Kristian Jones dominated the A race in 14:17.08 whilst youngster Elliot Lawrence ran a respectable 15:10.37 to finish 3rd.
On the field, Long Jumper Cierion Hopkins showed that he is getting back to fitness with a jump of 7.01m to place 2nd in the A string. Hurdler Jack Houghton also jumped an impressive 6.08m to place 2nd in the B string.
Thomas Walley won the A Pole Vault with a leap of 4.60m and experienced athlete Glyn Price finished 2nd in the B string with a jump of 3.60m. Patrick Swan finished 2nd in the Shot with a throw of 15.96m and 3rd in the discus with 43.75m
Thomas Walley jumped again in the triple jump with teammate Roberto Oppong, both claiming a 3rd place finish in the A and B strings. Walley jumped 12.02m and oppong jumped 13.15m
Nathan James secured another victory in the Javelin B string throwing 52.35m whilst teammate Aaron Morgan finished 3rd in the A string with a throw of 58.69m.
Unfortunately, due to adverse weather conditions, the 4x400m relay was cancelled.
North Wales Half Marathon, Conwy – August 4
Conwy hosted the North Wales Half Marathon yesterday with some great performances.
The first Welshman home was Sion Kelly Williams who finished in a time of 88:10 whilst in the women’s race Jen Adams was the first to cross the line in 97.14.
Brecon Lions 10 Mile Race, Brecon – August 4
Yesterday, Brecon played host to the Brecon Lions 10 mile race.
Daniel Williams was the first male runner home in 53:38 to take the win in the men’s race whilst in the women’s race Wendy Price was the first welsh women home in 1:10.32 to take 2nd place.
