Welsh Athletics is committed to supporting coaches to create inclusive, engaging and effective environments for developing athletes in our Sport.

In recognition of this year’s Commonwealth games in Birmingham, the Virtual Coaching Conference theme will be:

‘Club to Commonwealth Potential - How to Nurture Talent and Develop Performance’.

This series of pre-recorded sessions will delve into the lived experiences of coach, and athlete journeys from age-group club representation, to Commonwealth potential, exploring how to nurture talent to develop performance for a lifelong enjoyment of the Sport.

We have exciting insights from former GB sprinter and now GB Team Coach Laura Turner-Alleyne who will explore the concept of a Performance Environment. Team NewBalance endurance coach, Steve Vernon,  will discuss his development as a coach from club to performance level. Welsh athlete Andy Davies,  will join Steve to examine their thriving coach-athlete relationship which continues to drive his performance as a Masters athlete.

Welsh, Commonwealth Shot Put bronze medallist Shaun Pickering will explain the biomechanics of throwing, and  give coaches the tools to work with an athlete to develop a technique that compliments their athletes' strengths.  In a pre-recorded chat Paralympic Champion Aled Davies, and Olympian Adele Nicoll, they will share their positive reflections on their multi-sport backgrounds and how it has laid the foundation for their respective successes

Former International athlete, and jumps coach, John Shepherd will delve into the challenges of  maturation and athlete development, whilst exploring the different approaches to programming to optimise potential. Finally, to round off the week, Helen James and Jeremiah Azu will open up about their 'simplicity for success' approach to training and competing, as well as the important relationships they have made with integrated services providers.
