Welsh Athletes Charlotte Arter (Chris Jones; Cardiff AAC) Charlie Hulson (Chris Jones; Liverpool) and Kristian Jones (Swansea Harriers) will all represent British Athletics at the Simplyhealth Great Stirling Cross Country on Saturday afternoon. The event, which is taking place in Stirling for the first time having been held in Edinburgh since its inception in 2007, pits Great Britain & Northern Ireland against the best athletes in Europe and the United States of America.
Arter, who guided the British Senior Women's team to silver at the recent European Cross Country Championships with a 7th placed finish in Tilburg, will test herself once more against the best that Europe and the USA have to offer in the Senior Women's 6k race which starts at 1:23p.m.
Speaking ahead of the race, she commented; "It's a new course that I haven't run before, so I'm looking forward to testing myself on what will be another true cross country course. We've got a really strong team representing Great Britain on Saturday, and hopefully we'll be able to challenge for overall victory against strong European and American teams"
In the Senior Men's race, duo Charlie Hulson and Kris Jones will again hope to play an important role in the British team after they helped secure team silver in Tilburg last month, as they take on the 8k course at 1:55p.m.
British Athletics Team Leader for the event, Chris Jones, commented; "The team is brimming with cross country experience that will prove vital in navigating the course in such a hotly contested event against some of the best athletes from across Europe and the USA and I’m optimistic of yet another excellent showing from the British team.”
Live coverage of the Simplyhealth Great Stirling Cross Country will start on BBC One from 1:15p.m on Saturday afternoon.
