A trio of Welsh athletes will compete at the Spar European Cross Country Championships in Dublin on Saturday.

Jenny Nesbitt has been showing great racing form so far this winter and will be hoping that continues this weekend at the custon built Cross Country course in Fingal.

Nesbitt has finished as the runner-up in all three British Athletics Cross Challenge races this season, most recently behind Jess Judd in Liverpool where she broke clear from the rest of the field to finish strongly in second place.

The Cardiff athlete was 29th at the European Championships at Lisbon in 2019 and finished as the fifth team scorer, helping the team to Gold medals on that occasion.

Cari Hughes was 19th in Tilburg back in 2018, helping her team to Gold and will compete in the U23 race this time.

Hughes’ warm up for the race came with a ninth place finish at the season opener in Cardiff, a sixth place finish in Milton Keynes and a fifth place performance at U23 level in Liverpool.

Osian Perrin will make his debut at the Championships, competing at U20 level. The Anglesey man was a credible fourth at the trial in Liverpool and has pedigree at International level that includes finishing fifth over 5,000m at the European Championships in Tallinn last year.
