Weekend Roundup: Golds Galore in Lisbon and Fast Racing in Telford 10K

European Cross Country Championships, Lisbon, Portugal – Dec 8
6 Welsh athletes had been selected to represent the GB team over the weekend at the European Cross Country Championships in Lisbon and all were part of medal-winning teams in their categories.
Matthew Willis ran a strong race throughout to become the second GB athlete home and finish 9th overall helping the team to a gold medal.
Bronwen Owen was the first GB runner home, leading the U23 team to a bronze medal and finishing 7th . Cari Hughes was in contention for the first 2 laps but was unable to finish.
Kris Jones matched his strong performance at the trials to finish 22nd overall and help the senior men’s team to gold.
Charlotte Arter and Jenny Nesbitt came out looking for a medal. Arter ran a quick race to come just behind GB teammate Jess Judd in 7th and Nesbitt finished in 29th. Both positions were good enough to earn the women’s team a gold medal.
Telford 10K, Telford – Dec 8
Yesterday saw Josh Griffiths take a big chunk of his 10K pb finishing in 28:57 with Jonathon Hopkins also running a strong race to finish in 29:01.
Paul Graham had a good race, finishing 19th overall in 30:05 with fellow Welsh athlete Matt Edwards finishing close behind in 30:24.
Clara Evans also made her way to Telford to run the 10K, clocking a quick time and new personal best of 33:08.
Cardiff Met Christmas Classic, NIAC, Cardiff – Dec 8
The traditional Welsh indoor opener returned this year with another day of exciting competition and standout Welsh performances.
The 3K race walk saw both Bethan Davies and Heather Lewis go head to head once again with Davies clocking a quick time just outside her personal best in 12:49.33 and helping Lewis to a new personal best of 12:55.36.
In the 300m, Steffan Dylan Jones smashed his previous best with 36.02 and showing good form in preparation for the 400m.
In the 60m, youngster Owain Lloyd Hughes built on is summer season success and dipping under 7 seconds twice, setting a new personal best of 6.76s.
Aberystwyth Charity 10K, Aberystwyth – Dec 8
The seaside town of Aberystwyth held a Charity 10K run yesterday. Tim Iveson of Builth and District running club was the first Welsh runner through the line in 34:24. He was followed by Owain Schiavone Aberystwyth AC in 34:57.
In the women’s category, Maldwyn Harriers runner Jenny Evans finished first in 42:21. She was followed by Delyth Davies, clocking a time of 42:32.
