Weekend Round-Up - Courtney-Bryant Shines in Stockholm

Stockholm Diamond League
Melissa Courtney-Bryant countinues her incredible running form at the Stockholm Diamond League where she competed in the 1500m. To no shock at all, Courtney-Bryant went on to smash her pervious best of 4:03.44 to run a new personal best of 4:01.81. The Welsh star is edging closer and closer to breaking the Welsh record.

Welsh Athletics Junior Throws & Track Competiton
On the 22nd August juniors travelled to Aberdare for the first of two specific Welsh junior competitions. In the Hammer U17 Owen Merrett won the Hammer competition in 66.11m and in 2nd followed U15 Mali Loader in 34.49m. The next event was Discus where U15 Teddy Gannon won in 46.67m and in 2nd place was U17 Patrick Morgan in 39.10m. There was a close competition in the Javelin with only 3m separating 1st and 2nd. U17 Morgan Batten won in 46.75m and George Snaith was 2nd in 43.30m. The final event of the day was the Shot Put where U15 Macsen Holland won the event in 12.32m and U17 Toks Akanbi Mortimer came 2nd in 11.02m.
On the following day took place in Swansea where athletes battled through tough conditions. The fastest time of the day was from U17 Zak Wall who ran 11.52 into a -2.3 with Jac Patterson coming in 2nd in 11.63 in the same race. In the 200m U17 Noah Ernest ran the quickest time of the day with a 22.95 into a -2.5. In the last event of the day - the 800m, where three athletes ran sub 2:01:00. The fastest time of the day came from U17 Ryan Hardman in 2:00.58, 2nd was U17 Adam Beer in 2:00.66 and 3rd was Theo Cheshire with 2:00:94.

Nuneaton
Nuneaton continues to show why it is one of the hot spots in the UK for sprinters to be after this weekend. The latest performances from Welsh athletes such as Owain Lloyd Hughes, Jeremiah Azu and Joshua Brown are a testament to how fast this track is. Azu, Brown & Lloyd competed at the Birchfield 4 Clubs Inter Club competition on the 23/08/20 where Azu ran a scorching 100m time of 10.35w, a huge improvent from his race a few days before where he ran 10.63w in Chelmsford on the 19th. Brown ran a time of 10.56w backing up his PB performace of 10.48 at the 'Night of 100m PB's' in Nuneaton on the 19th. Owain Lloyd unfortunately DNF in his 200m race but earlier in the week also on the 'Night of 100m PB's' in Nuneaton Owain ran a fantastic PB of 10.38 putting him top of the Welsh rankings and 4th in the UK rankings.
In the 400m a week after his huge PB run in Loughborough, Joe Brier headed to Nuneaton to run yet another PB on 46.38 in the 400m! He is in great form heading into the British Championships in Manchester. Lauren Williams has also found fine form with a SB over the 400mh running 58.49 - her second fastest time ever.

Bromley Twilight Invitation Meeting
Beth Kidger continues her fine running form running 4:15.22 to come 2nd. Michael Ward and Ieuan Thomas battled it out in the 3000m with Ward being the first Welshman to cross the line in 8:07.97 and Thomas following in 8:23.90.

Base MK5km PB Special
We had four Welsh athletes compete at the Base MK5km PB Special. Bronwen Owen won the Women's Elite Wave A race in 15:55 with Lauren Cooper coming 9th in 17:13. Michael Kallenberg came 5th in the Men's Elite Wave B race in 14.51 and Dan Bodman coming 9th in the Wave N race in 16:38.
