CAU Inter County Championships - Saturday 9th March - Loughborough
Jenny Nesbitt (Worcester; Chris Jones) produced a stunning performance as she secured her place on the British team for the World Cross Country Championships with victory in the Senior Women's race in Loughborough. The Worcester athlete produced a remarkable final lap to chase down Stockport's Jess Piasecki and cross the line with a 13 second winning margin.
After the race she spoke with British Athletics; “It means an awful lot to have achieved an automatic qualifying spot for the World Cross Country Championships because it’s been a long time in coming. I was disappointed not to make the team in Liverpool and today then became the goal and the focus.”
Elsewhere, Wrexham's Matt Willis took victory with an impressive run in the Junior Men's race, securing his second British Athletics Cross Challenge win of the season. He also secured his place on the British team for the World Cross Country Championships in Aarhus, Denmark at the end of the month and commented; "“Last year I came here and blew up and I couldn’t risk doing that again. Inter Counties has been my weak link in my career from Under-13 level where I came 212th. Since then I’ve had a sixth, 17th, seventh and a second, but today I’ve finally managed to get the elusive win.”
