European U18 Athletics Championships, Jerusalem

Ophelia Pye (Malborough) came into the championships with a personal best of 59.74s over the 400m hurdles and left as European U18 Champion and with a new personal best of 58.09s. Running significantly faster through the heats (58.91s), semis (58.53s) and in the final, Ophelia timed these championships exceptionally. Her time was also fast enough to equal the Welsh U20 400m hurdle record, which is currently held by Lauren Williams (Swansea).

In the boys Medley relay, Callum Webb (Cardiff Archers) and Jac Patterson (Cardiff Archers) helped secured the GBR team a place in the final, where they went on to win a bronze medal.

Cork City Sports, Cork

Sam Gordon (Cardiff) placed 2nd in a strong men’s 100m running a time of 10.33s (2.9), whilst Dewi Hammond (Cardiff) was 6th in the same race, running a time of 10.43s. In the women’s 3,000m, Jenny Nesbitt (Cardiff) placed 6th, running 8:59.86, whilst Charlotte Arter (Cardiff) was 9th in a time of 9:12.42.

University of Birmingham Open and BMC


In the men’s 800m, James Heneghan (Cardiff) took a convincing victory, running a time on 1:52.39. Behind him was Owen Hibbert (Deeside) who ran 1:53.97 for second.

In the men’s 5,000m, Lloyd Sheppard Brown (Cardiff) set a personal best of 14:31.85 to place second.

Over 1,500m, Morgan James (Cardiff) ran 3:51.88 to finish in 7th.

MK 5000m PB Specials, Milton Keynes

Olivia Tsim (Pontypridd) set a new personal best in over 5,000m, running a time of 16:15.67 to place 7th in the women’s elite race.

University of Birmingham Track and Field Festival

Over 3,000m, Beth Kidger (Brighton Phoenix) set a new personal best of 9:06.59. Lloyd Sheppard Brown (Cardiff) dipped inside 4 minutes in 3:59. Kate Seary (Cardiff) was also in action over 1,500m, running a personal best of 4:18.32 to place 4th in the women’s invitational race.

Nell Desir (Cardiff Archers) set a new personal best over 100m. The U15 ran 11.96s to edge closer to the Welsh U15 100m record of 11.90s.

James Heneghan (Pontypridd) set a new personal best over 400m, breaking 50s for the first time.

WSAA NASUWT Cup & Plate, Aberdare

Wednesday afternoon saw the WSAA NASUWT Cup & Plate take place in Aberdare. Highlights include :

  • Max Evans (U14B Cup Long Jump) - victory by over 1m in 5.66m
  • Cerys Davies (U16G Cup Shot Put) - victory in 9.25m, just 1cm off the CBP
  • Eurion John (U16B Plate Discus) - victory by over 14m in a distance of 41.13m
  • Osian Parry (U16B Plate 80m Hurdles) - clear victory in a time of 12.05s
  • Osian Parry (U16B Plate Long Jump) - victory in 5.82m
  • Menna Grant (U16G Cup 75m Hurdles) - victory in 11.77s
  • Menna Grant (U16G Cup Triple Jump) - victory in 10.18m
  • Salem Mbimu-Kiambi (U16B Cup Triple Jump) victory with a jump of 11m 44
  • Ava Rode Thomas (U16G Plate 75m Hurdles) - ran 12.98s to win by nearly a whole second
  • Dolly Evans (U16G Plate Discus) - victory in 26.93m
  • Mischa Jackson (U14G Cup 200m) - victory by over 1 second in a time of 27.66s
  • Harri Morris (U14B Plate 200m) - dominating the race winning in a time of 24.77s
  • Holly Humpherys (U14G Cup 300m) - victory in 45.87s, over 3seconds faster than anyone else
  • Jack Farrerll and Thomas Edwards (U16B Cup 300m) - both running 38.95 for joint victory

Asics 10km, London

Dewi Griffiths (Swansea) showed he was rounding into good form ahead of the Commonwealth Games with a 2nd place finish in a time of 29:16.
