EUROPEAN CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS – ANTALYA, DECEMBER 8
Cari Hughes (Cardiff Athletics) and Dafydd Jones (Swansea Harriers) were part of the Great Britain team which topped the medals table at the 2024 European Cross Country Championships in Turkey.
The Brits plundered 12 medals overall, including three individual gold medals on a memorable day in Antalya.
Jones finished 44th overall in the men’s under-23 event where he was part of the GB squad which claimed team gold.
The race was won by team-mate Will Barnicoat (Aldershot Farnham and District) as he successfully defended the title he won last year. His training partner David Stone (Shafstbury Barnet) claimed bronze.
Meanwhile, Hughes was part of the senior women’s team which claimed a silver medal – finishing just four points behind the victorious Italian team.
The former Welsh 1500m champion, who was making her sixth appearance at this event, finished 37th overall in the race. Kate Axford (Belgrave) was the top British finisher, claiming a top 10 place.

Silver (3): Jess Bailey (U20 women), George Couttie (U20 men), Senior Women

LOUGHBOROUGH INDOOR OPEN – DECEMBER 7-8
A number of Welsh athletes competed at the Loughborough Indoor Open at the weekend.
Amongst them, Lily Noble (Deeside AC) celebrated a new 60m hurdle personal best as she won her heat at the Loughborough Indoor Open in 8.81.
Commonwealth Games long jumper and multiple Welsh champion Rebecca Chapman (Cardiff Athletics/Exeter) finished second in the senior women’s 60m B final clocking 7.93.
Michelle Thomas (Birchfield Harriers/Welsh Masters ran a new 60m hurdles W50 PB of 10.46 and clocked 8.71 in her 60m heat.
T47 athlete Nils Rehm (Cardiff/Cardiff University) jumped 5.22m to win the mixed long jump final.
