ENGLAND ATHLETICS UNDER-18 AND UNDER-16 CHAMPIONSHIPS INCLUDING JUNIOR PARA CHAMPIONSHIPS – BEDFORD, JULY 25 AND 26
Welsh athletes enjoyed a fruitful weekend at the English Athletics Under-18 and Under-16 Championships, including Junior Para Championships.
There was a podium one-two in the Under-18 women’s hammer where National Development Programme thrower Evie Cooper (Swansea Harriers) hit a winning distance of 58.94m.
Fellow NDP Amelia Mitchell (Neath Harriers) claimed the silver medal with a best 58.59m.
Filip Noga (Carmarthen Harriers) produced an impressive personal best of 64.06m to claim gold in the Under-16 men’s hammer final.
It was a particularly good day in the throwing events as Gethin Brown (Deeside AAC) convincingly won the Men’s Under-18 hammer with a best of 64.25m.
NDP endurance athlete Millie Pierce (Swansea Harriers) delivered gold in the Under-18 women’s 2000m steeplechase final, taking the win in 6:56.18. Clubmate Isabelle Lawley placed ninth in 7:44.89.
F36 athlete Sienna Allen-Chaplin (Swansea Harriers) celebrated gold in the para ambulant shot put final with 4.87m and claimed bronze in the para ambulant long jump with a best of 2.97m.
There was a silver medal and a PB for NDP thrower Lachlan Robbie (Cardiff Archers), who recorded a best effort of 18.27m in the Under-18 men’s shot put final.
NDP multi-eventer Tiana Odugbesan (Cardiff Archers) won silver in the Under-18 women’s long jump final with 5.74m.
Another silver medal went to fellow NDP endurance athlete Bryony Boyce (Cardiff Athletics) in the Under-18 women’s 1500m in 4:36.31
Mia Johnson (West Cheshire) won silver in the Under-16 girls 200m final in 24.19 and narrowly missed out on a medal in the Under-16 girls 100m final when she finished fourth in 11.81. Moridiat Olugunju (Newport Harriers) was sixth in 12.05.
Ewan Sparey (Bristol and West AC) was another Welsh silver medallist as he clocked 1:53.59 in the Under-18 800m final.
The Under-16 boys 1500m final saw Nate Greig (Bridgend AC) claim a silver medal and a new PB of 3:59.75. Clubmate Lewis Durston was sixth in 4:10.66.
Cerys Fitzpatrick (Carmarthen and District Harriers) also won silver in the Under-16 Girls and Under-16 Boys 3,000m race walk final in 17:39.83.
Meanwhile, Oliver Cobbold (Swansea Harriers) celebrated bronze in the Under-16 boys 3,000m final where he clocked 9:08.02.
NDP athlete Grace Hawker (Cardiff Archers) earned bronze in the Under-18 women’s shot put final thanks to an effort of 13.72m.
Another NDP athlete Lucca Tardivel (West Cheshire AC) went home with a bronze medal in the men’s Under-18 200m final, where he posted a time of 21.42.
Lily Parsons (Cardiff Athletics) matched the feat in the Under-16 girls 300m hurdles final winning bronze in 45.01.
There was another bronze medal for T37 athlete Fletcher Roberts (Brighton Phoenix) in the men’s para ambulant 200m final where he clocked a PB of 32.35. Roberts also picked up a PB of 15.41 finishing fifth in the para ambulant men’s 100m final.
In the Under-18 boys 400m, Toby Lemon (Deeside AAC) finished fourth in 50.14. Similarly, Joshua Thomas (Cardiff Archers) was fourth in the Under-16 boys 200m final in 22.16.
Imogen Ashwell-Rice (Newport Harriers) enjoyed a PB of 24.43 as she placed fifth in the mixed 100m wheelchair final. Later she also finished fifth in the 200m final where she clocked 47.54.
William Richards-Baldwin (Cheltenham and County Harriers) achieved a new PB of 49.80m as he finished seventh in the Under-17 men’s discus final.
There was also a seventh place finish for Amelia Scarlett Garvey (Cardiff Athletics) in the Under-16 girls 300m final where she ran 41.25.
NDP athlete Lucca Tardivel (Deeside AAC) placed eighth in the Under-18 men’s 100m final in 10.94, while clubmate Alice Mary Sykes-Hand was ninth in the Under-16 girls triple jump final with 10.52m.
ASICS NK ATLETIEK – HENGELO, JULY 26
Alex Azu (Cardiff Athletics) finished seventh in the 200m final at the ASICS NK ATLETIEK, which is the Dutch Senior Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Azu clocked 21.56.
NORTH WALES JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT OPEN 2 – DEESIDE, JULY 26
Colwyn Bay AC took the honours at the North Wales Junior Development Open 2 in Deeside.
The provisional results, with 24 of the 25 events scored, show Colwyn Bay leading the points table ahead of Wrexham AAC and Menai Track and Field.
