TATA STEEL RICHARD BURTON 10K – CWMAFON, 3 NOVEMBER
Dewi Griffiths (Swansea Harriers) raced to victory for the fourth time in a row on the streets of Cwmafon on Sunday morning.
The two-time Commonwealth Games athlete has been in outstanding form on the roads this season. Griffiths has chalked up wins in the Cardiff Race for Victory 5K, Admiral Swansea Bay 10K and Caerphilly 10K already under his belt, as well as podium finishes at the Swansea Half Marathon and Newport 10K
On Sunday Griffiths ran his fastest time at the event, crossing the line in 29:49, finishing well ahead of Mike Ward (Cardiff Athletics), who claimed second place behind Griffiths for the second year running, this time in 31:41. Third place went to Jona Butler (Swansea Harriers) who clocked 31:56.
The women’s race was won by Olivia Tsim (Pontypridd Roadents), who has been showing excellent form since giving birth earlier this year.
Tsim finished second here last year in 36:57 but upgraded to the top step of the podium on Sunday, stopping the clock more than a minute faster in 35:37.
Second place went to Emily Davies (London Heathside) in 36:59, while Donna Morris (Builth and District) was third in 37:52.
The Tata Steel Richard Burton 10k also hosted the final race in the Welsh Athletics 10k Road Series and we are delighted to announce Dewi Griffiths (Swansea Harriers) won the overall men's title and Donna Morris (Builth & District AC) won the women’s title! Congratulations to both athletes.
CARDIGAN MAYORS RACE – 3 NOVEMBER
The Mayors 10km is an undulating route that takes you out of Cardigan along quiet roads and finishes with a fast downhill to finish line.
The first man to cross the line was Ollie George (Sarn Helen) who stopped the clock in 35:59.7, to finish comfortably ahead of Gary Wyn Davies (Aberystwyth AC) in 37:12.6 and Ben Hutchison (TROTS) in 37:26.2.
The winning female runner was Catherine Marks, who came home in 42:28.4, ahead of Cai Batchelor (Vegan Runners) in 43:42.1 and Kayleigh Bagshaw (TROTS) in 44:38.2.
BORDERS ROAD RUNNING LEAGUE - RACE 2 - TATTENHALL, 3 NOVEMBER
Founder members Tattenhall Runners were once again hosts for what could be regarded as the League’s “40th anniversary” race, and threw all of their resources into delivering a hugely successful event.
In excellent conditions for racing, 422 finishers (quadruple the turnout for the first race in 1984) battled round the familiar, but challenging 9.8K course.
The Men’s race saw another first-time winner – once again, a new recruit for Deeside AC. Luke Burgess was the man who pushed Stephen Ferroni (Wallasey AC) into second place on this occasion, with a 34 seconds margin of victory. Another new face, Conor Sarsfield (Helsby RC) was another 38 seconds further back in 3rd.
Emily Haggard Kearney (Deeside AC) had a 1 minute 45 seconds margin over her team mate and new Welsh Athletics National Development Programme athlete Abigail Doherty in the Women’s race, her 12th BL win overall. Just over a minute further back was 3rd-placed Hannah Cowley.
The team competitions saw two dominant performances in Men’s Division 1 from Wrexham AC and Helsby RC, with each club bringing their 10 counters home in the top 50. The Welsh club took the win on the day, but Helsby remain leaders at the top of the division, with both clubs now clear of the remainder of the division.
There was more success for Helsby RC in Women’s Division 1, where their win on the day saw them leapfrog defending champions Deeside AC to take a slender lead in what still looks a competitive division.
Division 2 Men saw Ellesmere Port RC register another win ahead of Wirral AC, results which consolidated those two clubs’ positions at the head of the division. Meanwhile, Chester Tri took the win on the day in Women’s Division 2, some 50 points ahead of Cybi Striders.

Gwenno Goode (Cardiff Athletics La Salle University) won her Atlantic 10 conference race, while Nia Clatworthy (Cardiff Athletics/Lamar University) was second in her Southland Conference race. Lloyd Shepperd Brown (Cardiff Athletics/Lamar University was 11th in the Southland Conference.
