NOVUNA UK ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS – AUGUST 2-3

Medals, records and Commonwealth Games nominations were showered across an action packed weekend for Welsh Athletes at the Novuna UK Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

There were UK titles, a world record, a European Under-23 record and two Welsh records, while some athletes took another step towards the dream of representing their country in Glasgow next year.

Others had they eyes on impressing the Great Britain selectors ahead of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo and World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi later this year.

2025 OGWEN 10, 25 AND 40 YR HELGI DU – AUGUST 2

This popular event is set amongst the most spectacular views in Eryri's Ogwen Valley.

With three distances available, covering some of the highest mountains in England and Wales, the races include epic trails and technical terrain.

The men’s 40k race was an extremely close affair which saw Michael Lelliott claiming the win in 4:56.09 with Evans Davies finishing just 10 seconds behind. Mark Darbyshire was third in 5:14.43.

Bethan Logan (Mynydd Du) won the women’s race and finished fourth overall in 5:27.19. Stephanie James (Maidenhead AC) followed her home in 6:39.56 ahead of Michelle Bowers (Deeside AAC) in 6:49.08.

Victory over 25k went to Alex Homei in 2:43.49 with Jon Mulhall (Liverpool Vikings) second in 2:52.02 and Toby Spencer third in 2:59.00.

The first female home was Katrina Entwistle (Bristol and West AC) in 2:56.55. Emily Browne (CDF Runners) was second in 3:07.57 and Rachel Tate third in 3:10.22.

The overall winner in the 10k race was Alice Grange, who completed the course in 50:30 and the next runner home was Olivia Bramwell in 52:03. The third female finisher was Kerry Jones (Cybi Striders) in 58:03.

The first male finisher was Jamie Hamilton Williams, who clocked 53:19. Ezra Van Egeraat was next in 53:58 and George Fleming third in 54:05.

WEST WALES JUNIOR OPEN U-11, U-13 AND U-15 – CARMARTHEN, AUGUST 2

More than 250 young athletes from across the district descended on Carmarthen for the West Wales Junior Open – Fixture 3.

Swansea Harriers took the honours on the day with 596 points ahead of hosts Carmarthen Harriers in second with 514 points. Brecon took third with 312 points.

Amongst the many impressive individual performances, Jac Sheehan (Carmarthen Harriers) won the seated shot with 7.66m and the seated discus with 24.44m.

Meanwhile, Katriel Udoh won the under-15 girls 100m in 12.4 and the under-15 girls high jump with a best of 1.60m.
