DAVID ALUN WILLIAMS NORTH WALES CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE – FIXTURE 2, WREXHAM, OCTOBER 19

The second fixture of the North Wales Cross Country Senior League, in association with Grand Prix Express, took place at Ysgol Morgan Llwyd, Wrexham, on Saturday.

Considering the floods in Wrexham earlier in the week, the course was in excellent condition, with the sun making a welcome appearance.

The men’s senior race was won by Liam Rawlings (Shrewsbury AC) in 28:00, finishing ahead of Daniel Kashi (Meirionnydd AC), who crossed the line in 28:24 and Rhodri Owen (Meirionnydd) in 28:33.

Meirionnydd’s two podium places helped them reinforce their position at the top of Division One after two fixtures of this year’s league.

Shrewsbury AC also celebrated success in the senior women’s race with Madeline Williams claiming her second consecutive win in this year’s competition, crossing the line in 21:14.

Under-17 athlete Abigal Doherty (Deeside AC) was second in 21:47, while her clubmate Martha Owen was third in 22:18.

Despite not claiming a podium finish, Eryri consolidated their position at the top of the women’s Division One.

There was an excellent turn-out with record numbers in the women’s race and the M65+, making race one of the afternoon the biggest in the league’s history.

The junior races, sponsored by Pyramid Consulting, saw a clean sweep for Deeside AC in the under-15 boys race – taking all three podium positions.

Zac Campbell led the way in a winning time of 15:25, followed home by clubmates Alfie Bartley-Rose in 15:44 and Elliott Rowe in 15:50.

There was further success for Deeside in the girls under-15 race, with Heather Watson breaking the tape in 10:52. Martha Bown (Menai Track and Field) was second in 11:22, with clubmate Tamsin Seguin third in 11:40.

There were excellent performances across all of the age groups through to the under-11s.

The next North Wales Cross Country League race will be held at Aberystwyth University on Saturday, 30 November.
