WOMEN'S OLYMPIC MARATHON
After receiving a late call-up to the team just eight days before the race while busy planning her wedding, Clara Evans (Pontypridd Roadents) came home as the first British finisher in the Women's Marathon on Sunday. As most of Paris basked in high temperatures on Sunday morning, athletes battled one of the toughest courses seen in a championship marathon as Clara finished 46th out of 92 starters in a time of 2:22.55.
OLYMPIC MENS 4X100M RELAY
Jeremiah Azu became the first Welsh track and field athlete in 28 years to win an Olympic medal when he led the Great Britain 4x100m relay squad to bronze in Paris on Friday night. After a tough individual start to the competition, Azu was able to end the Olympics on a high as he produced a blistering anchor leg which saw GB claim bronze in 37.61 behind South Africa and gold medallists Canada.
WELSH JUNIOR U13/17/20 OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
The championships took place over Saturday and Sunday at Swansea Bay Sports Park. There is a seperate round-up to cover all of the exciting action that took place over the two days!
BMC GRAND PRIX – WORLD ATHLETICS CHALLENGER – MANCHESTER, AUGUST 10
A number of Welsh athletes excelled at the BMC Grand Prix in Manchester on Saturday.
Piers Copeland (Pontypridd Roadents) won the men’s 1500m B race in 1:48.01 with Elliot Savage (Sale Harriers Manchester) second in 1:49.79.
In the women’s 800m C race, Tess McHugh ran a personal best of 2:13.88 as she finished fifth.
The women’s 1500m A race saw Cari Hughes (Cardiff Athletics) finish second to Hannah Nuttall in a new PB of 4:07.64.
There was also a PB for Osian Perrin (Menai Track and Field) in the 1500m A race where he finished seventh in 3:38.84.
