This weekend will see some of Wales’ top athletes descend on Cardiff to compete to become Welsh Champion in their chosen discipline at the Welsh Senior Track and Field Championships. With a range of activities going on, a large screen and some highly anticipated races, the weekend is going to be something you do not want to miss.
We will see close battles between Bethan Rees and Bethany Moule (John Davies) in the Javelin, both ladies will be chasing that 50m mark to gain the top spot on the podium. Commonwealth athletes, Bethan Davies (Andi Drake) and Heather Lewis (Martin Bell) are also both eyeing up that gold medal with both looking to build on their early season successes.
In the Hammer Throw, we get to see the highly anticipated battle between Osian Jones (Carys Parry) and Jac Palmer (Adrian Palmer). Speaking to Osian, who threw a season’s best just last week ahead of the champs, he said, “I’m definitely in pb shape so it is a target of mine for the weekend.” Jac has also thrown a seasons best recently and when we caught up with him, he said, “In my last two competitions, I’ve fouled some really big throws so I think if I can stay in the circle or keep it in the sector there’s going to be a big throw in there this weekend.” Both throwers are looking strong and in good form and both have a chance at walking away with the title and the medal.
"The Welsh Track and Field Championships is the highlight of the domestic season in Wales, the previous Champions list reads like a who’s who of Welsh sporting greats, and we are delighted that many of them will be returning once again this year to support the current generation of Welsh athletes. The event will see a mixture of Wales’ best athletes rub shoulders with many aspiring junior athletes, as we host a number of U15 events, alongside the junior club relay Championships.
Be it athletes chasing their first National title, or someone like Brett Morse who already has 10 to his name, we are sure to see a very competitive Championships."
