We are delighted to announce, Wales will host the European Athletics U23 Championships Trials at the Welsh Senior, U17 & Para Outdoor Track & Field Championships next June.

The trials will take place on 28-29 June 2025 at the Cardiff International Sports Campus in Leckwith, ahead of the 2025 European Athletics U23 Championships in Bergen, Norway from 17-20 July.

Jeremiah Azu was co-captain at the 2023 European U23 Championships in Finland last year and took gold in the men’s 100m to retain the title he had won two years prior. Next year, Wales is hoping to see more success with the next set of U23 athletes progressing through the ranks.

Chris Type, Head of Performance at Welsh Athletics said:

The incorporation of the European U23 trials into the Welsh Senior Championships is very exciting for Wales. The inclusion of the trial will increase the quality of fields across the board ensuring a high quality event for all entrants.

Dan Wagner, Head of Performance Pathways at UK Athletics added:

We are thrilled that Welsh Athletics will host the European U23 Trials as part of the Welsh Championships next June. These trials play a vital role in the experience of pathway athletes, providing a crucial stepping stone on their international journey. With a fantastic venue and setup, we look forward to a memorable weekend of top class athletics.
