Three Welsh athletes have been named in British Athletics' team for next month's European Indoor Athletics Championships which take place in Glasgow. Melissa Courtney (Poole;Rob Denmark)Owen Smith (Cardiff;Matt Elias) and Joe Brier (Swansea; Matt Elias) have been named in the 48-strong squad for the event which starts on Friday 1st March.

Gold Coast Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Melissa Courtney secured her place on the team with a second placed finish in the 3,000m at the British Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham last weekend. The Poole athlete recently set a new Welsh Indoor Record over the distance when she ran 8:43:36 in Karlsruhe, a time that currently ranks her second in the World Rankings, and she will once again look to be competing for a podium position at a major championship in Glasgow in a fortnight's time.

Welsh Outdoor 400m Champion Owen Smith will pull on the British Vest for the second successive indoor season after competing in the 4 x 400m Relay at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 2018. He finished second at the British Athletics Indoor Championships last weekend with a new lifetime best of 46.37 seconds and will compete in his first individual 400m event at a major championship in Glasgow.

Swansea's Joe Brier will earn his first senior British vest after being part of the bronze medal winning 4 x 400m British squad at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Finland in 2018. Brier finished 4th in the 400m at the British Athletics Indoor Championships last weekend, which was enough to secure his place on the 4 x 400m Relay squad for the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow in a fortnight's time.
