This weekend on 15th and 16th June, our talented junior athletes are heading up to Queensway Stadium, Wrexham to battle it out at their Welsh Junior Championships. The weekend opens at 12:30pm with the U17 men’s 400 m hurdles Final and closes with U20 men’s 200m Showdown at 4.55pm. You can see the full timetable here.

Both track and field events promise to show a strong weekend of competition.

On the track, we will see an exciting North V South showdown as both Owain  Lloyd Hughes (Kevin Williams) and Zachary Price (Barry Edwards) battle it out over 100m and 200m. In the 400m 'Team Gold' go head to head with both Aaron Jolly (Mark Gold) and Morgan Glyndwr James (Mark Gold) hoping to run away with the Championship title. U15G Ella Wintle will be looking to claim her Welsh Outdoor Championship title to go with her 200m & 300m Welsh Indoor titles from February and, in the middle distance events, Benjamin Reynolds (Arwyn Davies) will be trying to match his indoor 800m Welsh and British U20 Championship titles with the Outdoor title too.

On the field, we will see a classic Swansea V Cardiff battle in the High Jump between Iwan Beggs (Steve Ryan) and Adam Moshin (Sharon Heveran) who have both jumped 1.85m this season so far. In the Discus, Jay Morse is hoping to improve on his 2nd place finish at the Loughborough International last month. Other athletes who are hoping to improve on their strong performance at the Loughborough International as well are Ffion Palmer (Adrian Palmer) competing in the Hammer and Tom Hewson (Mark Bradford) competing in the Javelin.

Thank you to the 50 Event Officials who are giving their time this weekend. They will be led by Head Official Sue Maughan. Sue has officiated multiple major UK championships and international competitions over the years, so it is great to see her supporting our Junior athletes.

The two-day event promises competitive action across both track and field events and will be available to watch in person with tickets costing just £4 on the day. Further information can be found on the Welsh Junior Championships page

From 10:30am-12:00pm both days, there will be an informal coaches and officials meet and greet session at the venue. All coaches and officials are welcome to attend both days.
