We are very sad to announce that Tesne Davies, Life Member and former Chairperson of Welsh Schools Athletics Association, sadly passed away on the 31st January, following a short illness.
Tes who was originally from Ammanford in Carmarthenshire, attended Ammanford Valley Grammar School, before going on to do her teaching training at Barry Girls College.
Her first teaching appointment was at Llanishen High School, Cardiff and then moved to Llandrindod Wells in 1963 to teach at the Secondary Modern School and then on to Llandrindod High School, as Head of Girls PE, until she retired from teaching in 1992.
Her contribution to Schools Sports Associations in Powys, was second to none and was always enthusiastically supported by Gareth her devoted teaching husband, was immense.
The commitment she made to Powys Schools and Welsh Schools Athletics was quite outstanding, having held many of the key positions, throughout the many years that she was involved, from the 1970's through to the 1990's.
She was a perfect example of a teaching professional, who gave her time and knowledge to pupil activities, which took place outside the confines of the classroom. One such pupil was Kirsty McDermott/Wade, who stated, Tes was such a great teacher, such a vivacious person, who I was lucky to know and played such a big part in my life/ athletics career and was always so kind to my parents.
A Thanksgiving service to celebrate her life will be held this Saturday, February 17th at 2 pm in Holy Trinity Church in the centre of Llandrindod Wells.
Our thoughts are with Tesne's family and friends at this very sad time.
