Supporting Visually Impaired Runners Across Wales

Last Saturday, we ventured over to Swansea Sports Campus where a full day of courses were being delivered by our talented team of UKA-qualified Coach Developers.
The morning kicked off with one of our Leader in Running Fitness (LiRF) courses and it was great to see so much enthusiasm from everyone wanting to lead runners safely whilst also adding a bit of fun to their sessions! We have seen a large increase in candidates attending the LiRF course so early on in the year, clocking up 122 candidates since January! It may be part of 'Marathon fever' or just a general interest across Wales but it’s great to see so many attendees stepping up and attaining their LiRF qualification.
As part of Wesh Athletics' collaborative approach to cross-partnership working, we were also delighted to deliver our Guided Running Workshop in partnership with Disability Sport Wales and Swansea County Borough Council to support VI runners that take part in the many events in Swansea with the support of volunteers and running clubs. VI running has become so popular with the many parkruns & Couch 2 5k programmes in and around Swansea so our 2-hour guided running workshop, which is a mixture of theory and practical activities, provides attendees with the information and experience in supporting visually impaired people and is the ideal platform to help grow VI running across Wales.
If you are looking for an upcoming Couch to 5k programme in Swansea, one has just started and it's not too late to join. More details here.
