Obituary: Ian Dixon

15/07/2021 00:00, In Blog / History /

It is with great sadness that we report that Ian Dixon has died.

From the mid-90s to 2017, he was a familiar figure at major athletics events in Wales - outdoor at track & field, cross-country and road events, and indoor at NIAC.

For more than twenty years from the mid-nineties to 2017, Ian was a familiar figure at fixtures organised by Cardiff & the Vale Schools, Welsh Schools, the Athletics Association of Wales, Welsh Athletics and Run 4 Wales.

Ian was a hugely experienced photographer, who got on well with everyone - pupils, athletes, parents, and officials - and put them at their ease.

Throughout Ian's career, he supplied high-quality photographs to major athletics bodies that were used to enhance website items, event programmes, and reports in the local press.

In 2008, Ian received a Meritorious Service from Welsh Athletics for the great work he had done for athletics.

Earlier this year, Ian was admitted to the hospital and after a long stay was finally discharged home, where he died peacefully at the end of June.

Our thoughts are with his wife, Sylvia, and his children, Janet and Jeremy, at this difficult time.

His funeral is being held this week but will be by invitation only.

For those many individuals, who knew Ian and who may wish to make a donation in lieu of flowers, the family has set up a Just Giving Page and the link is:Just Giving - Ian Dixon
