North Wales Endurance Meeting
A big thank you to Deeside Athletic Club and Amy Edwards, Welsh Athletics, for hosting the second Masters 3,000m international. A great night with two great races.
Start of the Men’s Race
The first race was the Men's M50 > M64 with 16 athletes representing England and Wales. A group of five athletes got away early on with Nick Shasha, England (M50) setting the pace. Coming to the start of the last lap there were still four in contention with Wales' Martin Green mixing it with Shasha and England's Chris Nicholl (M55) AND Joseph Gonzalez-Armas (M55). Through grit and determination Shasha just about maintained his lead to win by 3 tenths of a second from Nicholl, who had the satisfaction of winning the M55 age group.
Wales' Steven Gardner, who set out trying to break the Welsh M60 3,000m record hung into the lead group until two laps to go and whilst he was disappointed to miss out on the record, his new pb earned him the M60 age group win.

The women's race was equally tight with England pair of Sarah Hunter (W35) and Nicola Sutton (W40) leading the way. With two laps to go Sutton took on the pace and stretched away on the last lap as a tiring Hunter was caught by a fast finishing England teammate, Emma Raven (W40). Hunter still managed to win the W35 age group.

Wales' Joanne Henderson, better known as a mountain runner, ventured onto the track and had a successful night winning the W45 age group
Thanks to Team Manager Luke Northall and the England Team Managers for another successful and enjoyable night.
