Masters Road Running International Preview

Large Welsh teams will compete in a Master’s International against England at the Long Course Weekend in Tenby. The event will also host the British Masters Championships over Half Marathon. A total of 119 athletes will compete in teams of a maximum of eight athletes in 35, 45, 55, 65+ age categories across a 5km, 10km and half marathon on Sunday morning.
The long course weekend is organised by Activity Wales and attracts a total of 12,000 competitors to compete across a weekend of running, cycling and swimming events.
The objective was to offer masters a racing opportunity on Welsh soil and to provide the opportunity to a large number of our registered athletes.
Andrew Davies is perhaps the most notable of the Welsh team members. The 2:14 marathon man will compete in the half marathon race and has a best for the distance of 64:46 set at the Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon in 2019.
Martin Green recently finished second in the Anglesey Half Marathon with a time of 72:10 and will lead the M45 team here. Former track star Dave James will compete in the M55 10km race.
Lee Aherne heads the British rankings over half marathon for 2022 with a time of 75:14 so will be hoping to claim the British title here and claim maximum points in the Masters International.
Donna Morris will contest the 10km race as a W35 and has recent wins at the Treforest 10k and the Hereford 10 Mile Race to her name.
Niki Morgan will Compete in the W55 category for the Half Marathon and is the current Welsh Champion in this category.
Each race will be scored per gender with an overall team winner presented at the end of the day.
