Joe Brier takes silver in the 4x400m European Championships as Tom Hewson throws over 70m in the Javelin

U23 European Championships, Gavle, Sweden

Four Welsh athletes ran as part of the GB U23 relay team out in Gavle, Sweden for the U23 European Championships last night.

Melissa Roberts (Matt Elias), Shannon Malone (Glyn Hawkes) and Hannah Brier (Glyn Hawkes) all ran in the women’s 4x100m.  They finished strong to book their place in the final later on in the evening where they finished an impressive 5th

Joe Brier (Matt Elias) was part of the men’s 4x400m team and gave a solid 3rd leg performance to help the team get a silver medal.

New Balance ESAA English Schools' Championships, Birmingham

Over in Birmingham, Welsh athlete Tom Hewson (Mark Bradford) joined the 70m club in the Javelin, throwing 70.80m to win the ESAA English Schools’ Championships. This throw also puts him at the top of the Welsh rankings and 2nd in the UK rankings.

Ammanford 10K, Ammanford

The sun came out for the Ammanford 10K yesterday. David Keenan of Llanelli AC took the men’s race in 35.20 and in the women’s race, Alaw Beynon -Thomas of Swansea Harriers took the win in 38.09.

Scott Snowdonia Trail, Llanberis

Over the weekend, Llanberis hosted four trail runs, the 10K, Half Marathon, Marathon and the Ultra distance.

The men’s 10K race was won by Buckley RC runner Elliot Cox in 44:55. The first women home was Katie Reynolds in 54:03. The first man home in the Half Marathon distance was Joe Dale from Victoria Park Harriers Tower in 01:51:19 and in the women’s race, Josie Lloyd from Mercia Fell RC finished first in 02:11:14.

In men’s marathon, Nick Swimburn from Northumberland Fell Runners crossed the line first in a time of 03:18:10 and in the women’s marathon, Sidmouth RC runner Kirsteen Welch won in 04:07:52. In the toughest event of the day, Mark Darbyshire took the men’s ultra distance in 05:23:52 and Becky Atkinson of Windsor took the women’s race in 06:45:21.
