Welsh Athletics are sad to hear about the passing of John Gould. Long-time associate Ken Goodger said:
.
"Sadly on 13th November John Gould passed away after an 18 month battle with cancer. John entered the sport when his son Ian took up javelin and joined Torfaen Athletic Club. John became a coach initially to help his son achieve as much as he could in the sport. Over the years John branched out from coaching javelin and many of Torfaen's/Cwmbran Harrier's throwers came under his watchful eye.
John coached countless Welsh champions and Welsh Schools Champions over a coaching career that started in the early 80s and was brought to an end a short while ago through ill health. For more than 30 years John could be found at Cwmbran Stadium on Monday and Thursday evenings surrounded by a group of hammer, javelin, discus and shot throwers. Not content with coaching John also competed in the Welsh Senior League and the Welsh Masters League for a number of years in a Torfaen vest. He managed the Torfaen team in the early 1990s and at the time their throws squad was a formidable force.
John was an enthusiast for the sport, he took his coaching skills and knowledge to Brynmawr where he became an important cog in the coaching set up at the Blaenau Gwent club. John was awarded a meritorious award for his services to athletics in 2018."
