Foundations Framework Wales - Our Pledge
18/12/2024 00:00, In Blog /
Welsh Athletics is proud to support the Foundations Framework Wales, which has recently launched as a best practice guide for those involved in organising, promoting, delivering and enabling physical and sporting activities for children aged 3-11.The framework hopes to contribute to improving children’s physical activity levels in Wales, which has some of the lowest levels globally, by creating a collective effort to promote good practice and develop child centered opportunities.
Since the launch of Welsh Athletics physical literacy programme ‘Starting Blocs’ in 2020, we have been advocating for positive experiences for children in our sport, upskilling 85 leaders and coaches to deliver fun, engaging Starting Blocs sessions across the country. We are thrilled to have programmes and coach education pathways that are aligned to the ethos of the framework. We look forward to further implementing our sport, ensuring we give every child a great start on their movement journey in Wales.
Hannah Baulch, Head of Participation, said
It’s been great to collaborate with colleagues across the sector to contribute to the development of the Foundations Framework Wales.
This framework is more than a toolkit and should set the ethos that anybody involved in children’s sport and physical activity should be striving towards achieving, to ensure not only positive experiences but to harness a lifetime of enjoyment in physical activity for our young people.
We look forward to working with our clubs and members over the next year to make this a reality – we want to encourage more children into movement through our Starting Blocs program to make a healthier and happier nation of children.
Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, Sport Wales Chair & Paralympian, has shared her support:
The vision is to transform Wales into an active nation where everyone can have a lifelong enjoyment of sport and physical activity.
The Foundations Framework will ensure that every child can grow up in a Wales that supports them to be motivated and confident, and have the skills to lead active, healthy lives.
We want to provide every child with the best possible experiences and environments to thrive in physical activity and sport.
Over the next year, we will be sharing ways that clubs and coaches can get involved and play their part in supporting the framework.
