Everything you need to know ahead of the 2024 Welsh Senior & U15 Indoor Championships

2023 Welsh Indoor Championships: U15 girls 1500m race.

The 47th edition of the Welsh Senior and U15 Indoor Championships will take place at the National Indoor Athletics Centre, Cardiff Metropolitan University on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 January. 

Event Details

Doors will open at 8:30am on both event days. Athletes should proceed directly to registration on the first floor of the venue (turn left at the top of the stairs). Registration will open at 9:00am on both event days – athletes should report no later than 90 minutes before the timetabled event start time, which is when registration closes. 

Spectator Entry: On entry to the building, spectators will need to purchase a ticket at the welcome desk. Spectators (aged over 11) entry fee to be paid at the entry desk with a cost of £5 per person or a family of 4 (2 adults & 2 children under 16) at £12. U11’s will be admitted free-of-charge. 

Competition will get underway at 11:00am on Saturday and 10:45am on Sunday.

The Welsh Indoor Championships has seen an increase in entries by 32%, the highest number of entries in the history of the event! Following the successful introduction at the 2023 Indoor Championships, the 2024 edition will continue to include fully integrated para-athletics Championship events.

Top entrants include reigning T20 Shot Put World Champion Sabrina Fortune (Deeside AAC), T38 World Para Silver Medallist Olivia Breen (City of Portsmouth), Welsh 400m Champion Hannah Brier (Swansea Harriers) and Commonwealth Youth Games T38 100m Champion Tomi Roberts-Jones (Newport Harriers).

Looking for a competition memento? The Welsh Athletics merchandise shop will be open on both days of competition. Athletes and spectators will be able to purchase a range of Joma branded items including t-shirts, sweatshirts, joggers, arm sleeves and winter beanies. 

The pop-up store will be located on the first floor of the venue (turn left at the top of the stairs).

Travel

By Road

  • The campus is located off Cyncoed Road which is located off the A48.
  • Pay and Display parking is available throughout the Cyncoed Campus.

By Bus

  • The 52/52A bus travels from the city centre to the Cyncoed Campus every 15 minutes during the day, via Albany Road and Penylan Road.

By Train

  • Heath High Level and Heath Low Level railway stations are approx. 25 minutes' walk from the Cyncoed Campus, serving the area from the Rhymney and Coryton lines.

Event Day Parking

Event car parking is available at a cost of 50 pence for an all-day ticket. Parking is available (see map) in numerous locations around the university campus, with all car parks within a 2–3-minute walk from the arena. No parking is permitted roadside outside the arena – police will issue parking fines to anyone parked illegally. There is a route to the indoor arena from the furthest car park if it is needed, red arrows for guidance through halls.
