Coaching Courses & Collaborations

This month, we were pleased to collaborate with partners from Caerphilly County Borough Council to host our inaugural Coaching Assistants course at Rhymney Valley Athletics Club, located at Rhiw Syr Dafydd Primary School. The course, which quickly sold out, provided candidates with the opportunity to demonstrate their coaching skills through practical sessions in running, jumping, and throwing, under the supervision of our experienced tutors, Gareth Power and Jonathan Phillips. Participants benefited from a stunning venue enhanced by the warm autumn sun, which served to highlight the facility's impressive features. We anticipate returning to Rhymney in the new year to offer our Athletics Coach course, allowing candidates to specialise in their chosen event group area, thereby further supporting Caerphilly County Borough Council and Welsh Athletics commitment to supporting athletics across the region.
Additionally, we are excited to announce that our next Coaching Assistants course in West Wales will take place at the newly completed Athletics Facility at Amman Valley Leisure Centre, in partnership with Carmarthen County Council. As Welsh Athletics assumes responsibility for the Coach Education licencing process, we are pleased to introduce a Welsh Language option for the practical component on this Coaching Assistants course. This initiative reinforces our commitment to addressing the linguistic needs of participants in Wales and we look forward to showcasing our services at this first class facility which opened just under a year ago.
This course, along with various educational workshops for both primary and secondary teacher training opportunities being delivered, underscores our dedication to increasing participation in athletics, particularly among young volunteers and community clubs, as supported by Carmarthen County Borough Council who confirmed that Athletics is a key sport within the region.
Collaboration remains crucial to the future success of athletics in Wales, and we look forward to strengthening our partnerships to enhance accessibility and engagement in our sport across the region.
