On Sunday the Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10k incorporating the Welsh 10k Championships will take place. The race will see both reigning champions in the Senior Men & Women categories return, with Dewi Griffiths (Swansea Harriers) and Olivia Tsim (Pontypridd Roadents) in action.

The event will also host the second race in the Welsh 10k Road Race Series, where Natasha Cockram (Micky Morris Racing Team) finished first in the women’s 10K, with Michael Ward (Cardiff Athletics) also taking victory in the opening race.

Set in the shadow of the spectacular Caerphilly Castle, the Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10k will both start and finish on Crescent Road. At last year’s event Dewi Griffiths (Swansea Harriers) broke the course record, finishing under the half an hour mark with the time of 29 minutes and 39 seconds. Whilst Rachel Felton holds the women’s course record, which is 34:59.

Among the top entrants in the Welsh Championships and Road Race Series is Dewi Griffiths (Swansea Harriers) who has already claimed two Welsh titles this year, the Welsh Senior Men’s Cross Country and Marathon titles, he will be looking to take his third this weekend.

Also competing in the Senior Men’s race are Jonathan Butler (Swansea Harriers), Dan Nash (Cardiff Athletics) and Lloyd Shepard Brown (Cardiff Athletics), the trio finished in this order at the recent Cardiff 5k Race for Victory to claim podium positions at the Welsh 5k Championships.

The current Women’s title holder Olivia Tsim (Pontypridd Roadents) will be in action, Tsim recently finished third in the Welsh 5k Championships. Lauren Cooper (Parc Bryn Bach) will be making a return to the road after recently competing at the BUCS Athletics Outdoor Championships in which she represented Cardiff University in the steeplechase.

The race will get underway at 10:00 on Sunday. For more information about the event click here.
