Athletics confirmed for Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow

The Commonwealth Games Federation has announced Athletics is confirmed as one of the sports for the 2026 Games in Glasgow.
James Williams, CEO of Welsh Athletics reacted:
We are delighted to finally have the competition structure for the 2026 Games confirmed. The announcement will enable everyone to start planning in earnest. Albeit it is disappointing that there will be no Marathon in Glasgow, we do recognise the need for the Commonwealth Games to become more sustainable to enable future hosts to come forward and safeguard the future of the Championships for future generations.
We have been in constant dialogue with Team Wales and will now be working to confirm a Nomination policy and standards as quickly as possible.
Despite previous uncertainty, our staffing team have been working with a 2026 Games in mind, and have already established the support mechanisms that we hope will enable our athletes to perform at their highest levels in Glasgow.
