Swansea duo Caryl Jones and Elinor Kirk both took to the roads for the Women's Marathon in very difficult conditions on Sunday morning. Caryl produced a brilliant performance to finish 8th in a time of 2:43:58. She went through halfway in 10th place before continuing to work her way up through the field to produce a top 8 finish on her Commonwealth Games Marathon debut. Elinor finished 15th in a time of 2:57:01 - she fought and battled her way along the course in the blistering heat and produced a spirited performance in the extreme conditions.
In the Men's race, Andrew Davies and Josh Griffiths took to the roads - Andy making his second appearance at a Commonwealth Games Marathon and Josh making his Games debut. Andy produced a brilliant performance to finish 11th in a time of 2:26:02 after working his way through the field from 20th place at 20km. Josh finished 15th in a time of 2:37:01 which was also an excellent performance when taking into consideration the extreme heat on the Gold Coast. The Swansea Harrier fought every step of the way and moved up from 23rd place to 15th place in the final 15km.
