Weekend Round-up - 5th - 7th May

BUCS Championships – Bedford

There were many fine performances from welsh athletes competing at the British Universities and Colleges Championships in Bedford over the bank holiday weekend. Ten athletes in total picked up medals at the championships, including three golds.

·Dewi Hammond (Cardiff AAC) – Men’s 100m (10.77)

·Amy Odunaiya (Cardiff Met) – Women’s 200m (24.56 – PB)

·Roberto Oppony (Swansea Harriers) – Men’s Triple Jump (14.76)

·Jac Palmer (Cardiff AAC) – Men’s Hammer Throw (67.78 – PB)

BRONZE

·Kristian Jones (Cardiff AAC) – Men’s 200m (21.38)

·Ciaran Lewis (Cardiff AAC) – Men’s 3,000m Steeplechase (8:58 – PB)

·Jenny Nesbitt (Worcester) – Women’s 5,000m (16:30)

British Athletics League Premiership – Leigh

Cardiff AAC finished 3rd in the first round of the British Athletics League Premiership division on Saturday afternoon, whilst Swansea Harriers finished in 8th place.

Sam Gordon (Cardiff AAC) produced two season’s best performances as he finished 2nd in the 100m in 10.62 and 3rd in the 200m in 21.31. Jeremiah Azu (Cardiff AAC) and Josh Brown (Cardiff AAC) clocked 10.85 and 10.99 respectively in the 100m, and Azu also finished 3rd in the 200m B Race in a time of 22.09. In the 400m, Cardiff’s Owen Smith produced a fine performance to win in a season’s best time of 46.76, whilst in the 1,500m youngsters Ben Reynolds (Cardiff AAC) and Elliot Lawrence (Swansea Harriers) ran personal best times of 4:00 and 4:02 respectively. Cardiff’s Steve Morris ran a season’s best 8:44 in the 3,000m and Paul Bennett (Cardiff AAC) also clocked a season’s best in the 400m Hurdles with 52.56.

BMC PB Classic – Street

Junior athlete Remi Adebiyi (Newport Harriers) won the Men’s 1,500m race with a personal best time of 3:58, whilst Cardiff’s James Vincent (U20) won the men’s 3,000m in a personal best time of 8:28.

Texas Tech Invite – Lubbock, Texas, USA

Iolo Hughes (Andy Walling) ran to a season’s best time at the Texas Tech Invite 1,500m as he clocked 3:55 to finish in 3rd place.

Torrin Lawrence Memorial – Georgia, USA

Emily Kearney (Wirral AC) ran a personal best time of 10:54 in the women’s 3,000m Steeplechase at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial meet.

Cari Hughes produced a fine performance to win the BUCS 1,500m title
