Top Class Athletes set for Welsh Senior Championships

A number of Wales' top athletes will compete at the Welsh Senior Championships in Cardiff this weekend as they battle to be crowned Welsh Champions for 2018. Nine athletes who competed for Wales at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games will be in action, plus we have a Bronze Medalist from the 2017 IAAF World Championships in action, on what promises to be a fantastic weekend of top class action.

Commonwealth Games Bronze Medalist from the Gold Coast, Bethan Davies, will be competing in the 3k Walk along with fellow Commonwealth Games teammate Heather Lewis, who finished 7th in the 20km Race Walk on the Gold Coast. British Steeplechase Silver Medalist, Ieuan Thomas, and multiple-time Welsh Champion, Tom Marshall, will also be competing in the Men's 1,500m and 800m respectively.

Gold Coast Hammer Thrower, Osian Jones, will be looking to defend his title from 2017, whilst Rebecca Chapman will look to defend her Long Jump title from 2017. Sprint trio Rhys Jones, James Ledger and Morgan Jones will all race in the Men's 100m, after gaining selection for the WPA European Championships in Berlin next month.

GB 4 x 400m World Indoor Championships representative Owen Smith will also look to defend his 400m title, whilst World Championship Bronze Medalist in the 400m Hurdles last year - Jamaican athlete, Ristananna Tracey will be opening her outdoor season in the Women's 400m Hurdles on Saturday.

In an exciting new addition to this year's event, athletes will battle it out in 'The Race to 500' - where £500 will be awarded for the Best Male Track Performance, Best Male Field Performance, Best Female Track Performance and Best Female Field Performance.
