Fundamental Triple Jump Workshop takes place in Swansea

Friday 30th November, 2018

Sunday 15th November saw fifteen athletes from Swansea Harriers, Llanelli AC, Rhymney Valley AC, Carmarthen Harriers, Aberdare Valley and Cardiff Archers descending on Swansea University Indoor Athletics Centre for the first of a series of Fundamental Triple Jump Workshops , led by Phil Warwicker (Cardiff Archers).

Athletes started the day with a Physical Preparation Warm Up, specifically focusing on ankle mobility and stability. This was followed up with some combination jumping enabling the athletes to develop a flat foot landing and learning how to get into the next phase of the jump. Finally athletes did some short approach Triple Jump putting what they learnt into practice.

Triple Jump is going to be reintroduced into Welsh Athletics U15 competition programme by invite only. Athletes who attend a fundamental skills workshop and prove that they are competent at the event will receive invitations.

The next workshop will be held in NIAC (Cardiff) on Sunday 13th January, 1pm-3pm. Any athletes interested in attending should contact Phil Warwicker – pwarwicker@cardiffmet.ac.uk. Welsh Athletics would also encourage club coaches and PE teachers to attend, as we try to develop good practice across Wales.

Dates have now also been confirmed for our North Wales Fundamental Development workshops, organised by Denis Doyle. More information can be found here
