This weekend marks the annual Red Kite Challenge event, held in Devil’s Bridge just outside of Aberystwyth. The event is an annual series of mountain running and walking events with the profits going to support the local hospital.
This year’s Red Kite Challenge will hold the West Wales and Welsh Mountain Running Championships for all junior age groups, as well as the WMRA International Youth Cup trial race for the u17 age groups. In addition, the senior half marathon race will also be a championship race for the West Wales and Welsh Championships and will act as a trial race for the Celtic Challenge to be held in Brittany on 19th May.
For the junior athletes, the race provides an opportunity to be selected for the 13th WMRA World Youth Cup to be held in Lanzada, Italy on 16th June; up to four junior men and four junior women may be selected for the Championships in Italy.
The Red Kite Challenge headquarters are located at the Woodlands Caravan Park on the edge of Devil’s Bridge, three miles from Ponterwyd on the A44 which is located 12 miles inland from Aberystwyth. The postcode for the event is SY23 3JW. The first race will start at 11a.m and registration will be open from 9:30a.m on Saturday morning.
