North Wales Spring 2019 Development Workshops

Welsh Athletics are excited to see the continuing series of opportunities for young athletes in North Wales to be introduced to the fundamental skills of specific events within athletics, and provide an opportunity for athletes, parents and coaches to develop their knowledge and understanding of the key principles associated with their specific athletics events in a safe and structured environment.

These Fundamental Skills Workshops will be held at Deeside Athletics Centre, and the dates for the spring series of workshops are detailed below:

Sprints Workshops

This years sprint workshops will be led by hugely experienced Welsh Team Coach Phil Jones. The focus age group for the sessions will be U15 and U17 athletes and their coaches, although other athletes in younger age groups are welcome to attend

  • Sunday 3rd February (10am -12:30pm)
  • Sat 23rd February (10am -12:30pm)
  • Sunday 7th April (10am -12:30pm)

Hurdles Workshops

These sessions will be led by experienced hurdles coach Ian Broadhurst. The focus age group for the sessions will be U15 and U17 athletes and their coaches, although other athletes in younger age groups are welcome to attend.

  • Thursday 7th February 2019 (7.00pm - 9.00pm)

* Final session originally planned is having to be rescheduled – date tbc.

Horizontal Jumps Workshops 

The sessions will be led by Welsh team coach Amanda Broadhurst (coach to Tom Walley). The focus age group for the sessions will be U15 and U17 athletes and their coaches, although other athletes in younger age groups are welcome to attend.

High Jump Workshops

Welsh international high jumper and former Welsh senior champion Owen Chesher will be leading this series of high jump workshops. The focus age group for the sessions will be U15 and U17 athletes and their coaches, although other athletes in younger age groups are welcome to attend

  • Sunday 17th February (10am -12:30pm)
  • Sunday 10th March (10am -12:30pm)

Shot Put Workshops

Ian Robinson, an international coach and personal coach to European Para Shot Champion Sabrina Fortune will be leading the Shot development sessions. The focus age group for the sessions will be U15 and U17 athletes and their coaches, although other athletes in younger age groups are welcome to attend

  • Sunday 17th February               (10am -1230pm)
  • Sunday 10th March                   (10am -1230pm)

* A further Shot workshop date is to be confirmed

Discus Workshops

Ian Robinson, an international coach and personal coach to European Para Shot Champion Sabrina Fortune will be leading the Discus development sessions. The focus age group for the sessions will be U15 and U17 athletes and their coaches, although other athletes in younger age groups are welcome to attend

  • Thursday 14th February (7.00pm - 9.00pm)
  • Saturday 23rd February (10am -1230pm
  • Thursday 4th April                     (7.00pm - 9.00pm)
