Christmas message from the CEO of Welsh Athletics

As we approach the end of  year, it’s a good time to reflect on our recent successes and also to look ahead to another significant year for Athletics in Wales in 2019.

The 2018 Welsh Athletics Annual Report provides a snapshot of the wide ranging activities we've delivered this year and provides a summary of the highlights, including a wonderful Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

All the measures we have for our sport show continued growth, from participation and club membership to Welsh athletes earning GB vests. There is much cause for optimism. The extensive consultation conducted earlier this year told us there are still challenges to be overcome and we will be launching a new strategy for the sport in 2019, informed by this feedback. There will also be new additions to our Board of Directors, including the recruitment of a new Chair, as well as a realignment of our resources to deliver the priorities identified in the new strategy.

Here in Wales, the much anticipated new website will come online in the first quarter of the year, together with a rebrand of our image, as we increasingly look to invest in digital solutions for our members and deepen collaboration with our stakeholders.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and the staff team at Welsh Athletics, we’d like to say a huge thank you for the contribution you made to the success of athletics in Wales in 2018.
