The Welsh 10k Championships will take place within the Cardiff Bay Run on March 31, 2019. One of Wales’ most loved 10k races is returning to Cardiff’s historic Bay next spring to raise the curtain on an exciting year of distance running. More than 6,000 runners enjoyed stunning weather and a flat route at this year’s event, and the next instalment offers the perfect challenge to dust-off the cobwebs after the winter.
The route takes in all the iconic landmarks of Cardiff Bay, starting and finishing in Roald Dahl Plass and passing the Wales Millennium Centre, Mermaid Quay, the Pierhead Building, Senedd, Porth Teigr and the Cardiff Bay Barrage.
Some of Britain’s best endurance runners have battled it out across the course in recent years but this time around they will be joined by a world-class field as the race takes on a new elite dimension.
Spaces are expected to sell-out again for the first leg of the Run 4 Wales 10K series, which will incorporate a brand new 10K race to add to the popular Cardiff Bay Run, ABP Newport Wales 10K and Barry Island 10K.
Run 4 Wales and Welsh Athletics Chief Executive, Matt Newman said: “The Welsh running boom is in full flow and the Cardiff Bay Run will kick-off another blockbuster year of Run 4 Wales events. The race provides the motivation to keep fit over the Christmas period and gives runners the chance to test their fitness at the first major 10K of the year.
“We are looking forward to building on the success of the inaugural Run 4 Wales 10K series by adding a brand-new event which will be revealed this week. A huge number of personal bests were smashed last year by elite and club runners alike, while those taking their first steps at a mass-participation event got the perfect introduction on the flat course around the stunning setting of Cardiff Bay.”
A new trend was set at back in March when female runners made up a 60 percent majority of finishers. The 2019 Cardiff Bay Run falls on Mothering Sunday and offers the perfect opportunity for the family to get together and take on a 10K before tucking into a Mother’s Day lunch.
