It was an action packed day at the Welsh Athletics & Welsh Schools Indoor Combined Events Championships at NIAC on Sunday. Age Group Champions were crowned from u13 right up to u18 as Wales' most promising young athletes battled it out over multiple events in Cardiff.
Freddie Webber (Llanelli AC / Coedcae) was crowned the U14 Boys Champion as he won the Quadrathlon with a score of 1498 points. Webber threw 7.86m in the Shot Put before clocking 10.07 seconds in the 60m Hurdles. He then jumped 4.61m in the Long Jump before clocking 2:31 in the 800m to seal victory. Finishing in second place was Osian Roberts (Carmarthen Harriers / Bro Pedr) with 1366 points, whilst Harrison Garcia (Swansea Harriers / Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr) was thrid with 1086 points.
The U13 Boys Welsh Championship was won by James Sloyan (Carmarthen Harriers / Model School) with 601 pooints ahead of Sebastian Mitchell-Fofana (Cardiff Archers / Marlborough Primary) with 580 points and Ellis Powell (Rhymney Valley / Blackwood) with 543 points.
Sophie Lisk (Cardiff Archers / Cardiff High School) won the U14 Girls Championship with a total of 2250 points. Lisk jumped 4.47m in the Long Jump before clocking 9.41 in the 60m Hurdles. She then threw 8.63m in the Shot Put before clocking 2:40 in the 800m to seal victory. Finishing in second place was Lucy Wintle (Pembroekshire Harriers / Ysgol y Preseli) with 2058 points, whilst Chloe Simmonite (Swansea Harriers / Coedcae) finished 3rd with 1991 points.
The U13 Girls Welsh Championship was won by Matilda Quick (Swansea Harriers / Ynystawe Primary School) with 1251 points, ahead of Zoe Strevens (Swansea Harriers / Bishopston) with 1243 points and Sophie Taylor (Swansea Harriers / Hendrefoilan Primary) with 1111 points.
Zak Wall (Cardiff Archers / Cardiff High School) won the U16 Boys Championship with 3203 points. Wall clocked 8.75 seconds in the 60m Hurdles before jumping 5.80m in the Long Jump. He then ran 23.69 in the 200m, threw 12.72m in the Shot Put and clocked 2:17 in the 800m to confirm victory. Finishing second was Sam Petherbridge (Swansea Harriers / Olchfa) with 2875 points, with Charlie Holland (Swansea Harriers / Bishopston Comp) third (2723 points).
Ellie-Rose Isaac (Cardiff Archers / Glantaf) was crowned U16 Girls Champion with 3149 points. Isaac started with a 5.000m jump in the Long Jump, before clocking 9.34 in the 60m Hurdles. She went on to record 1.53m in the High Jump, 8.84m in the Shot Put and 2:34 in the 800m to confirm victory. Finishing in second was Gabby Dickinson (Cardiff AAC / LLanishen High) with 3025 points, and in third was Evie Wong (Cardiff AAC / Cowbridge) with 2825 points.
Ben Hillman (Cardiff AAC / St.Teilo's) won the U18 Boys title with 3237 points. He started with 8.46 seconds in the 60m Hurdles before throwing 10.16m in the Shot Put. Next was the 200m where he clocked 23.47, before jumping 5.98m in the Long Jump and running 2:09 in the 800m to confirm victory. Runner up was George Asprey (Aldershot, Farnham & District) with 2909 points, whilst Benjamin Henson (Cardiff AAC / St.Teilo's) was third with 2614 points. George Powell (Rhymney Valley AC / Blackwood) finished fourth but won the bronze medal in the Welsh Schools Championship event with 2341 points.
Emilie Davies (Blaenau Gwent / Gwynllyw) was victorious in the U18 Girls Championship with 3301 points. She threw 8.33m in the Shot Put before clocking 9.17 seconds in the 60m Hurdles. Next was the Long Jump where she recorded 5.07m, before jumping 1.59m in the High Jump and running 2:29 in the 800m to seal victory. In second place was Grace Morgan (Cardiff Archers / Radyr) with 3194 points, whilst in third place was Sofia Vella (Cardiff AAC / Cardiff High School) with 3047 points.
