Cardiff athlete Clara Evans will be hoping the home crowd can carry her to a strong performance as she represents Wales at the Commonwealth Half Marathon Championship on Sunday morning. Evans admits she’s excited to be pulling on the red vest over her preferred distance of the half marathon on Sunday, as she chases a lifetime best performance on a route she’s all too familiar with.
“It's always an honour to put the Welsh vest on but this time it will especially great as it will be over my preferred distance of the half marathon”, said Evans. “The Cardiff Half Marathon is always a fast race, but the field is going to be even better with it being a championship event, and I am really looking forward to trying to produce as good a performance as possible in Sunday's race. My training has been going well recently and I've started finding form in good time for the race.”
The Cardiff athlete does have plenty of experience racing around the streets of the welsh capital, competing in the Cardiff Half Marathon in 2014, 2015 and 2016. More recently, she finished 4th at the Cardiff 10k with a time of 35:55 and was victorious at the Simplyhealth Great Bristol Half Marathon with a time of 76:26.
Evans will be hopeful of carrying that fine form into Sunday’s race, as she pushes for another strong performance to help Wales to a high placed team finish at the inaugural Commonwealth Half Marathon Championship.
