UK Athletics is introducing non-binary guidance for road race organisers in their pursuit of enhancing an inclusive environment for all participants within the sport.
UK Athletics, governed by the IAAF, follow their rules and regulations though these do allow for an additional race category of ‘Non-Binary’ to be used. People whose gender is not male, or female use many different terms to describe themselves, with non-binary being one of the most common. (The UKA transgender policy is currently under review and will be published by the end of the year).
Additionally, Welsh Athletics support and encourage race organisers to include a 3rd Gender category within their race. Here you can find a guidance document provided by UKA and endorsed by Welsh Athletics for those who would like to offer Non-Binary category to their runners.
The guidance will provide advice and guidance around several areas related to your race such as entries and adding a 3rd category, the terminology that should be used in pre-event information, the facilities available to the runners at the event, and results and prizes.
