With a fantastic turnout at the North Wales Indoor Championships that were held at the Indoor Athletics Centre at Deeside on 13th January, it was fantastic to see representation from all Track & Field Clubs across the region.
With youngsters competing in the u11’s open through to the masters category, it was great to see North Wales’s best athletes battling it out on the track. It was great to welcome back the Special Olympics athletes as well as having athletes competing in the F35, F36, F37 & F20 classifications.
Some of the great performances included those of :
Chloe Griffith (Alwyn Roberts, Menai T&F) with an impressive 8.35 seconds in the U15 Girls 60m;
Arthur Powell (Maldwyn Harriers) with 7.55 in the U15 boys 60m;
Jennifer Townley (Philip Jones, Colwyn Bay AC) with 8.08 in the U17 Women's 60m,
Zachary Price (Barry Edwards, Menai T&F) with the quickest 60m of the day in 7.34;
Moli Jones (Philip Jones, Colwyn Bay AC) with an impressive time of 7.89 in the U20 Women's 60m;
George Savage (Deeside AAC) with a throw of 6.63m to take the U13 Boys Shot;
Isabelle Collins (Ian Robinson, Wrexham AAC) with an impressive throw of 10.70m to take the U17 Women's Shot title;
Nicholas Young (Neil Donbavand, Sale Harriers) with a huge throw of 14.61m to take the U20 Men's Shot title;
Connor Laverty (Ivan Washington, Swansea Harriers) with an impressive throw of 12.36m to take the Senior Men's Shot title;
Sabrina Fortune (Ian Robinson, Deeside AAC) with a huge throw of 11.86m to take the Senior Womens Shot title;
Thomas Walley (Amanda Wale, Wrexham AAC) who jumped an impressive 4.25m in the Pole Vault to take the regional title as well as the Triple Jump title with a jump of 13.84m.
The event was sponsored by Coleg Cambria once again this year and we are immensely grateful for their support and partnership that continues to develop Athletics in North Wales. The Regional Championships will be followed by the Welsh Athletics Junior Track & Field Indoor Championships on 10th and 11th February where many of the North Wales athletes will travel down to Cardiff to compete for the national titles.
