Race Report: Welsh Junior Mountain Trial Race for British Championship

Dic Evans took on the responsibility of organising the trial race at Devils Bridge for the British & Irish Junior Mountain Running Championships on Sunday 6th August and the course Dic produced, along with his brother Clive was certainly a testing one! The up and down, 2.6k lap course which included some steep climbs and fast running descents on the mainly grassy terrain to mirror the event in Scotland, produced some excellent racing which saw Joe Crutchley (Maldwyn) back to fitness after a spell out with health issues, comfortably winning the 3 lap Under 20 men’s race by over a minute ahead of Ryan Cain (Menai). Aberdare’s Joe Reardon was another impressive performer, winning the two lap Under 17 boys race in 23.04 ahead of Wrexham’s Ifan Oldfield 23.33 with Menai’s Eden Potter 3rd in 33.46. Lois Lee (St Davids School) and Rhiannon Kamink (Colwyn Bay) were the female star performers on the day winning their respective Under 17 and under 20 categories.
