Swansea Harrier Caryl Jones (Alan Storey) has been selected to #REPRESENT British Athletics at this summer’s European Championships in Berlin, Germany. Jones has been selected as part of a six-strong British women’s team that will be looking to compete for a medal in the European Marathon Cup.
Caryl clocked a personal best of 2:34:12 over the Marathon distance in Amsterdam back in October, and recently produced a fine performance over the distance as she finished 8th for Team Wales at the Commonwealth Games in Australia. This summer’s European Championships will mark Caryl’s second appearance in a British Athletics vest on the roads, after she was part of the team that travelled to Bulgaria for the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships back in 2012, where she finished 10th in 71:52.
"Caryl prepared fantastically for the Gold Coast Marathon but had to contend with extreme heat conditions which didn't allow her to show her full potential. This is a really exciting opportunity for her to compete at another major games as part of a very strong, potentially medal winning team, and run a fast time." said Chris Jones, National Endurance Manager.
Joining Caryl in the British Athletics team will be Lily Partridge (Alan Storey; Aldershot, Farnham & District), Tracy Barlow (Nick Anderson; Thames Valley Harriers), Sonia Samuels (Self; Sale Harriers Manchester), Alyson Dixon (Self; Sunderland Strollers) and Charlotte Purdue (Nic Bideau; Aldershot, Farnham & District).
