ASICS FESTIVAL OF RUNNING 5K and 10K ELITE SPEED RACES – PARIS, APRIL 5

Double World Athletics Championships marathoner Josh Griffiths (Swansea Harriers) finished 29th overall in the 10K.

Griffiths, who also finished 15th representing Wales at the Gold Coast Commonwealth marathon in 2018, clocked a time of 31:09 on the streets of Paris. The race was won by Ethiopia’s Jemal Yimer in 27:43.

BERLIN HALF MARATHON – APRIL 7

Clara Evans (Pontypridd Roadents) ran a European Athletics Championships half marathon qualifying time in Berlin on Sunday.

Evans finished sixth overall in the women’s race at the Superhalfs Series event which attracted a record entry of 38,712. The women’s race was won by Tekle Muluat, of Ethiopia, in 66:53

Welsh marathon record holder Evans’ time of 70:11 in Berlin was a new personal best and inside the 70:30 qualifying mark for this summer’s European Athletics Championships in Rome.

ERRA NATIONAL ROAD RELAYS - APRIL 6

Welsh Club teams qualified to compete at the National Road Relays in Sutton Park at the Welsh Road Relay Championships last September.

Swansea Harriers led the Welsh Men's teams home in their 12 Stage Road Relay in 10th place having last won here in 2017 and with Kristian Jones running their fastest long leg in a time of 26:22.

Meirionydd RC finished in 24th position in a race won by Leeds City.

The Women's event was won by Thames Valley Harriers and saw Swansea Harriers lead Welsh teams home in ninth place having last finished on the podium as Silver Medalists in 2017.

Les Croupiers RC finished in a respectable 14th place with Pontypridd Roadents finishing in 29th place on their debut at the event.

Alaw Evans was the fastest Welsh Athlete on the long legs with a time of 30:44.

NORTH WALES, SOUTH SNOWDONIA SEARCH & RESCUE TEAM (SSSART) TRAWSFYNYDD MULTI TERRAIN 8 MILE 2024 – TRAWFSYNYNDD, APRIL 7

More than 230 runners took part in the Trawsfynydd Multi Terrain 8 Mile race in aid of the South Snowdonia Search and Rescue Team.

Run over a picturesque multi-terrain course around the Trawsfynydd Lake, the men’s race was won by Ben Porter (Cerist Triathlon Club) in 51.54. Second was Steffan Sayer (Menai Track and Field) in 52:17 with Aled Hughes (GOG Triathlon) third in 55:10.

Winner of the women’s race was Fiona Corrick, who crossed the line in 1:02.21, ahead of Amanda Bailey in 1:05.08 and Margot Saher in 1:06.09.

SWANSEA HARRIERS NEAL MERRY OPEN 2024 – SWANSEA UNIVERSITY, APRIL 7

The Neal Merry Open attracted more than 400 entries despite the threat of Storm Kathleen on Sunday.

The first track and field event of the season produced a number of excellent performances across a number of age groups from Under-11 upwards in spite of the challenging weather.

Great Britain cross country international Cari Hughes (Cardiff Athletics), the only female runner competing in the men’s 3000m, clocked a new personal best of 9:08.3 as she finished second behind Iolo Hughes (Menai Track and Field), who broke the tape in 9:07.1.

Meanwhile, Matilda Quick (Swansea Harriers) followed up her success in winning pentathlon gold at the English Athletics Under-17 Indoor Combined Events Championships in Sheffield last month by winning the women’s under-17 80m hurdles in 12.17.
